1998 Rolex 17013A Oysterquartz Datejust 18kt Gold and Steel 17013 White Roman TT DJ
For sale is an excellent vintage condition 36mm 18 karat yellow gold and stainless steel Rolex Oysterquartz Datejust. The 17013A is a W serial, circa 1995, and was shipped to its original authorized retailer sometime after 1998, based upon the date of the 17013B Jubilee bracelet’s “U9” clasp code, which dates to September of 1998. The 17013 is not accompanied by a box or papers.
The Rolex features a brushed steel case, which is accented by a fixed fluted yellow gold bezel. The Datejust is mounted on its original integrated brushed two tone 17013B18 Jubilee bracelet, which is fully linked (13 full-size links) and will comfortably fit a 7.5 inch wrist. The bracelet’s clasp is stamped with a “U9” clasp code, which corresponds with a production date of September, 1998. The Datejust features a white dial with applied polished gold Roman numeral hour markers, gold tritium coated hands, and a magnified date window aperture at 3 o’clock. The movement in the 17013A is the Rolex Caliber 5035, which is keeping perfect time, having recently received a new battery. Condition: The case appears unpolished, retaining strong brush lines, crisp well defined chamfers, and sharp bezel flutes. The bracelet contains no noticeable stretch with strong brushed lines and beveled edges, while the coronet on the clasp is thick and crisp. Overall, the Oysterquartz is in excellent condition and appears to have never seen a polishing wheel. The only imperfections are some surface-level hairlines from previous wear and two faint nicks on the edge of the crystal at 4 and 10 o’clock. About the reference 17013A: In the early 1990s, Rolex switched case and bracelet manufacturers for their three Oysterquartz Datejust models. As a result, the Oysterquartz Datejust models each received new references, indicated by the letter “A” following their reference numbers to denote their updated cases. Furthermore, given that the Oysterquartz Datejust was produced in extremely limited quantities throughout the 1990s due to its waning popularity and subsequent discontinuation in 2000, one can assume that the “A” variants of the Oysterquartz Datejust models are exceedingly rare. These variants were introduced at a time when the Oysterquartz models were at their lowest level of popularity and were subsequently discontinued 5 to 8 years later.
