Engrave back of Yachtmaster .

I’d like to present my son in his wedding day this coming March with my 1999 platinum Yachtmaster. Just back from Rolex service so it looks and functions as new.
My local AD just told me Rolex no longer engraves watches and the AD has advised me not too have it done.
Would engraving damage the movement and or void my new warranty from Rolex service ?

No, don't know.

Case backs are inexpensive and not difficult to replace. If I wanted it engraved I would keep a blank case back handy for when it had to go in for servicing or repair work. If DIY swapping is out of the question a watchmaker can do it in seconds.

It won’t hurt a thing. Go for it and make a beautiful special and meaningful gift if that’s the intent.

Agree with this 100%. OP, more than likely the caseback will be removed prior to engraving. Watch won't be "hurt".

I have both my 214270 Explorer MkII and my 116500ln white dial engraved on the case back. Both were done at Rolex ADs for free since I have bought watches from them. It will have no effect on the movement, and as another has stated you can get a replacement case back if you really want to later on. I think engraving the watch for your son is awesome and he will cherish the memory of the day and the moment every time he looks at the watch....also the 99 YM is a stunner with the older grainy platinum dial, your son is a lucky boy.

It’s a nice touch to get it engraved and it won’t harm the watch getting it done
