Surprising Text!
A year ago, I put my interest in for a couple of Rolex watches at my local AD. Being new to the watch hobby, I knew what I needed to do to make sure I can get the watch I wanted. The watches I wanted were hard to get, but I was patient man. I put in my interest for the 36 OP Candy Pink, and Turquoise. I also threw my hat in for the GMT Batman.
I religiously visited my AD every month for a year. I had great conversations with the SA's I've been working with and I am glad they were with me on my side! A couple of weeks ago, I got a call for the Batman, but I didn't feel the timing was right, and told my SA to give it to someone who would really wanted it more than I did. Today i got an unexpected text from my local AD. She asked if I was available. I said I was available and set up a time to meet up. When I got there, my SA's told me they had a surprise. As they brought the box out, I slowly opened it and got the watch I really wanted. I was shock that I was allocated the watch! I was in such disbelief because it was a watch the AD doesn't get often. I'm really love this watch! This watch pushed me out of my comfort zone, to meet new people, and experience the chase of a Rolex. Along the way, I developed a very good relationship with my SA's! For those who are waiting for their Rolex, stay positive, visit your AD and banter with your SA. Having a good SA will make the experience much better. You're patience will be rewarded! |

Congrats, but I personally would never have gone into the AD in person every month to check in.
You're spending a lot of money; you don't need to cultivate a "relationship" for a retail transaction; this is so backwards to me. Not to mention, the SAs have other things to do than shoot the breeze time and time again with someone. To be brutally honest, if I was an SA and saw the same guy coming in every 4-5 weeks like clockwork to talk to be about basically nothing for 20, 30, 60 minutes or more and play the game, I'd get tired of it very quickly. Sorry if that's cynical, but this is madness. A simple email check in to see if there are any updates once a quarter or so is more than sufficient to let them know you are still interested and to keep them from forgetting about you. Again, glad you got the call and watch you want, but this is a retail transaction with a lot of money being evacuated from your account - not the other way around. |

Happy for you. Glad you waited for what you appreciate more. Many people would not have done that.

Everyone will do their own thing. There is no exact science or blueprint on how we should pursue the Rolex watch you want. Everyone's situation is different. Some folks can only see their SA (or AD) every few months due to distance lack of a nearby AD or just busy with life. Some folks just want to put their name in and not visit and just hope they get the call. I talked to a guy last year and he was waiting for a Submariner and has been waiting for 2 years. I asked if he visits his AD and he said no. I'm not sure if he ever got one. Some folks walk right in get offered a watch right away. I honestly never felt I was a burden to my SA's. I was respectful to the point that if another customer came in, I would tell my SA to help them out and I would meet up next time. I planned on how my Rolex journey would be. I made a commitment to go in once a month. I'm fortunate that my office is only a 10 minute walk to my local AD. I do have to say, I visited a different AD when I started and the experience wasn't so great. The SA had the attitude of "you're wasting my time." I felt dejected when I left. I just knew this place wasn't the right fit. From this whole experience, having the right fit with an SA, in my opinion is important! |
