Hi Kyle;
Very hard to tell with that picture. Going to need a shot straight on of the dial, as close as your camera will focus. |

That's pretty beat up. More pics would help. As mentioned by Jeff, especially the one straight on the dial.

Unfortunately the watch just took a trip to a collector with my boss so i cant get any more pictures right now. Figure I would ask you boys on the forums since the knowledge on here impresses me daily. The dial condition is untouched and flawless from what I saw. Crystal is scratched from normal wear, but no cracks or chips. The bracelet was replaced a long time ago by the owner, and doesn't have box or papers, he believes they may have been lost while moving, or he just threw them away at some point (owner had no idea the watch was special since he only paid $200 for it when he bought it from his friend in 1975).

Pretty good investment if you ask me ($200-$47,000)
I think $47,000 was a fair price, based on the current condition & assuming its all correct |

A little Paul Newman Daytona history:
The watch worn by Newman for 35 years was a black face Oyster Daytona 6263 given to him by his wife in 1972, when they were making the race car movie, "Winning". It had the regular subdials. The watch pictured is a 6239 vintage watch from the 60s--with the "Newman" subdials. Oyster versions (6263, 6264,6265) appeared in the 70s with the same chrono dials. There are examples in Imai of 6263s with and without the Newman dials. Why are the Newmans so valuable? Because they are rare, and also because of the Newman name attached to them. They are still a cult watch in Italy. Newman himself said he had no idea why the subdial bore his name, though he did do advertising for Rolex wearing the watch at some point. |
