1 to keep, 1 to go….Daytona themed
Here’s my dilemma. Looking to fund the next piece for the collection.
Debating between my 116500 white dial or my 116509 blue dial. Both of these were bought grey. Both are amazing. Obviously we know the hype around the white ceramic and the blue dial is subtle but amazing in its own right. Part of me is leaning towards the white dial as maybe I can have a chance to get one down the road from AD of the new 12 series. Initially I’d say I do prefer the 11 series with the bold contrast but then again I haven’t seen a 12 series in the flesh. We know stainless Daytona’s are extremely hard to get, but not like they are necessarily rare. Blue dial is obviously worth a bit more but will be taking a decent loss on that one from when I purchased. Obviously blue dial can’t be replaced later from AD, at least at the moment. Generally I do like the subdials showing on the Daytona or outlines, so the blue dial is a bit tame in that aspect but I do love a blue dial on any watch. |

Tough one. I would say 116500 is lees special and has those uneven sized lugs that bother some people )
What is the watch you are funding? |

A stainless steel Daytona is a staple of many a collection. The 116500LN being the best steel ceramic version. I would lean towards keeping that the 509 will be easier to replace down the road.

For me, keep the white dial 116500. Sell the blue.

Could you provide us with some details as to what you are looking at, cost, and values on the watches you are wanting to trade. This will give us more to base our advice on.

“ I haven’t seen a 12 series in the flesh.”
You should definitely do first. I find both 126509 and 126505 very attractive. |

If you’re indifferent toward both, keep the one that’s the most difficult to replace

116500 is more appealing. Personally I’d keep that one.

Wow. I have both these watches and I wouldn’t sell either. Two of my favorites in my collection. If I had to let one go, it would the one I would lose the least on.
Selling to a grey, I’m betting you can get 40-41 for the blue dial and 26k-27k for the white dial steel (maybe more if a late model year that is mint). I have a feeling you would take a greater hit on the blue dial. The WG watch just feels more special due to the weight on your wrist. I’m not helping at all, I know. This is a tough decision. |

This is a hard one.
I have a 116500 white dial and am thinking about selling it for the 116509 blue dial. The white dial is great, but looking for a change into precious metal. For me personally, since you have both I would see if there is something else in your collection that you could sell other than one of these two. The 116500 white is a classic. -But will the ceramic age long term ok vs the steel on the watch? The 116509 blue is incredible new age PM Daytona. -I think this will be like a Patek blue dial 5711 except in Rolex PM when we look back in 10 years - No one is fighting over them now, but the demand will change with time since white gold Rolex is still a “new” offering (maybe 1988 with the 16519?) - White gold will be popular in time with younger generations to continue their differentiation as their older generations all seem to enjoy yellow gold. Let us know what else is in your collection. Also what you are trying to sell one of the Daytonas to buy. |

In line with what others have said, the wg is much more special, imo.
That being said, it doesn't sound like you're madly in love with either, to be honest. Why not sell both and circle back to the daytona at a later time? |

I tend to be drawn to pieces that are less common so I would keep the 116509. They are both fantastic watches. Whatever you choose to do you will be keeping an awesome watch and parting with an awesome watch. Which do you wear more frequently?

I also have a 116515 in the collection. I rotate all of them pretty frequently. The white dial is hard to get, but very common. And this one can be potentially replaced down the road with a 12 series. For now I am going to keep both, but I think if one had to go it would be the panda. Still need to give it some thought. |

I would redefine the rules and work with a 6 watch collection.
I have them both too and really and truly unless I had to sell, I couldn't pick between them. WG is more special, but they both wear differently and both equally impressive for different reasons. |

How much of a hit are you taking on the WG?
I think the WG is a more special watch; much more unique than the regular daytona. |

Personally, I would just add to the collection and get the 5 watch rule out of your head. Both of those pieces are stunning to say the least. I have a 12 watch collection and don't think I could part with any of them.
