What was I thinking??? New Daytona...

I've had Rolex watches for closing in on 15 years, always sport watches but never really the Daytona. I did own a black-faced Zenith Daytona at one point but I found it hard to read and let it go without any regrets. Having been a somewhat of a watch-bend over the last couple of weeks I had the opportunity to pick up a Daytona from an AD so I thought it might be time to revisit the Daytona.

What was I thinking? Why on earth did I wait this long to get this piece? The size is perfect for a mix of sport and dress watch! The weight is and comfort is ideal! The quality is impeccable (for a mass produced watch) and it just sings loud and beautifully to me!!!

Life is too short for long waits!

Cheers,

Patrick

That one looks like a single stick dial (short markers at 27 and 33 min).... but with shiny sub-dials. could you please take more pictures of the dial to compare...my 116520 is also single tick dial (mostly on newer models) but a different shade of sub-dials slightly pale...

Not that I paid any attention to it, but you are right, it has shorter markers at 27 and 33 min. The sub-dials are definitely on the shiny side vs the more matte brownish ones - works fine with me as it matches the stainless steel on the rest of the watch very well.

I'll take some photos later, but I don't have a macro for my DSLR and the kids just recently broke my P&S.

Mine's a "single stick" dial, too, it seems...

Not sure if you would characterize the subdial rims as "shiny" or "pale", though? Depends on the lighting, I guess...

PSV: Huge congrats on the Daytona!

I'm back at my office wearing this thing. I know it is all about honeymoon right now but I must say that there is something je-ne-sais-quoi educated and sophisticated about the Daytona. It feels more mature than a Submariner or Seadweller. :-)

The Zenith has the skinny hands. I owned a black dial Zenith Daytona too and I could not read the darn thing. I sold it as well with no regrets. Made money on it so I was placated by that.

Have the modern Daytona now and can read it well..

Gotcha. So the "Fat Hands" Daytona Black really made the difference, eh?

Looks great! Glad it sings to you this time around.

And I agree about the plastic stickers/pieces. Even after having it for a few months, I actually found two more very small pieces that I missed taking off.
