Bought first Rolex but having some doubts on authenticity...

Hi all, new to the forum and I brought my first Rolex yesterday--got a black dial Cestello from Tourneau. After returning home, I noticed that there are engravings on the back of the case as I was cleaning it with a cloth. If I remember correctly, I believe Rolex does not make watches with engravings with the exception of 2 watches (forgot names). I panicked at first but then saw that there was a film of plastic on the back casing so I thought perhaps the engravings are actually on the plastic itself and not the case. Does anyone know if that's possible? I didn't want to peel the plastic off because then I will not be able to return it if I have to. Attached is a picture of the engravings. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It is highly unlikely to never that Torneau would've sold you a fake Rolex watch. The engraving appears to be on the caseback vice on the plastic. I am not familiar with Cestello line, however.

Welcome aboard!

AD = Authentic

You are referring to there only being two watches in the OYSTER lineup with case back engravings (Milgauss and DSSD). Your watch is part of the Cellini collection. You are fine.

ADs don't sell fakes. I think as picky as Rolex is they might frown upon that.....

Haha "face-palmed," I tried searching google for "rolex with engravings" and it all came back with results like "real rolex does not have engravings." But thanks for the pic, it made me feel A LOT better. And thanks for all the quick replies--really appreciate it.

On the cellini line... They did engrave the case backs. Normally with gold or platinum hallmarks.

Yes, I've heard Rolex has been pulling AD status from those guys in overcoats selling on the streets of Chinatown. Sad.

No way Tourneau would sell you a fake. Enjoy the watch.

Welcome to the Forum..

There is a lot of misinformation on the 'Net about Rolex watches..

Your watch, bought from a reputible Authorized Dealer, is good......

Thanks again for all the quick replies. I figure it be highly unlikely that a store like Tourneau would sell counterfeit products (but I still had some doubts in my mind). So instead of driving 40mins back to the store I visited this forum and asked for some expert opinions. And about the watch...I never would've imagine myself wearing a leather-straped dress watch--has always been a sports watch person. But when I saw the rose gold/black dial combination I thought "what the heck, it'll go nice with a suit." Here's a pic of the front:

Can't speak to the watch, but not all Tourneaus are official Rolex ADs. The one in Burlington, Mass. only sells used Rolex and I'll assume they get them from customers because they keep offering to buy mine.

So, a fake could slip through a used Tourneau location. If it was sold as brand new with papers, then no.

Just checked Rolex website and the Tourneau I went to was listed as AD. The watch came with all the warranty information (from both Rolex and Tourneau) with the exception of a certificate (I think the green warranty cards replaced the paper certificates).

Just to further set your mind at ease, my Cellini Classic ref. 5115/8 has a caseback exactly like that. So I'd say you can definitely be 100% certain that it's legitimate. Older Cellinis - from before the mid-2000s or so - did not have engraved casebacks, but from about that time onwards they have been engraved with that pattern and logo.

Oh, and a very good choice, by the way - lovely looking watch !

Congrats on the new pickup - looks great

I was thinking of adding one to the collection but was unsure if it would look too small on the wrist.

Would you have any wrist shots?

Thanks.
