Safe to wear Rolex in Waikiki…..

Thoughts on wearing your nice timepieces in Waikiki area of Hawaii? I know very touristy and the big hotels so I’d imagine you’d see quite a few. Just wasn’t sure how the latest scene is since haven’t been in a few years.

Never travel with a Rolex. Absurd thing to do. Specially with a gmt, they are meant to stay in one place for their entire life.

Step 1 - insure your Rolex
Step 2 - wear it everywhere, and if you go out to an ultra sketchy area at night, wear a LS shirt or sweatshirt to cover it up

All seriousness, I think you’re fine in HI. Enjoy the trip!

10/10 NOT SAFE.

You end up spending too much time taking wrist shots and getting yelled at by the wife for it...

Completely safe, though I cover up or have a sweater/long sleeve over my watch when out later at night. I recall being almost blacked out drunk with my 116519 and walking out of Waikiki (rather than back to the RH Center) and was perfectly fine. My preferred AD is right there as well. I love watch spotting in Waikiki.

Jpeezy - Sheraton Waikiki has been a staple getaway for us during COVID. I remember November 2020 and we saw 10 people in all of downtown on a weekday afternoon. Lots of Rolexes on the people in the Infinity pool section :).

No issues on the main strip. However, I'd stay away from the zoo or any area where the streets are not well lit.

You should maybe cover with a sweatband just to be on the safe side. Remember when you play tennis to wear a matching headband.
Enjoy your trip.

I am embarrassed to admit, I was in Cancun last week for a week and wore only my 214270. I love that watch and it's the most comfortable of all but it was absurd to not take one of my new watches which have hardly seen the sun yet!

I just can't believe I bought into this fear thing..

I wear all my steel watches around town, and I live in London. The place where apparently looking at your Rolex in public gets you robbed instantly. Common sense and some awareness helps. Maybe don’t wear that rainbow Daytona at 2am alone and drunk in the streets.

I think jpeezy needs an "umbrella drink" intervention! Maybe introduce him to one of the bourbon threads?

It’s one of the last safe places on earth.

Every other major city in America and Europe has been labeled as unsafe at one point or another

Mostly OK in Waikiki, but stick to busier areas

I am a longtime visitor to the Islands with family scattered throughout Honolulu and parts of Maui. In Waikiki, most tourist areas are totally fine (I have worn my Sub for years there), but to be safe I'd avoid some areas at night like Kuhio Ave (one block parallel from Kalakaua, which is the main street going through Waikiki). That street and the corresponding blocks leading to Ala Wai Canal can be fairly sketchy early morning and rife with streetwalkers and pimps at night. They mostly stay out of sight, but I wouldn't be wandering down those streets. It's been this way for decades, and most tourists are unaware.

You will actually see quite a few Rolex wrist sightings, anywhere from well-worn pre ceramic Daytonas to chocolate dial Day Dates-- interestingly enough, I have seen more Rolex wrist sightings on women there. I will be there this summer and looking forward to it, Sub on my wrist and a beater packed just in case.

When your cocktail of choice is listed under “appetizers” something is wrong.

I lived in Oahu for a couple of years near the Punchbowl National Cemetery. There is plenty of crime on the island. Both my car and apartment were burglarized during my short time there.

Poolside bars always do plastic cups. If someone (who's had a few drinks :P) drops and breaks their glass near the pool then the whole pool would have to be drained so they can clean it and find any bits of glass that got in.

Jpeezy has it right. Why settle for an umbrella when you can put an entire meal on a stick in the drink!

OP, I think you’ll be fine. Obviously just make sure you don’t lose it in the water with a loose screw or anything!!!
