Omega Planet Ocean GoodPlanet GMT - my new daily watch

Just a little background on myself...

I work in a maritime environment (Port of Los Angeles) and lately I've had the itch for a nice diver watch with a GMT function because I find myself traveling more and more lately. I also have friends and family in the Philippines that I keep in constant contact with, so it's nice to be able to look at a watch and be able to instantly tell what their local time is.

I had narrowed it down between the Rolex GMT Master II (blue/black ceramic) and the Omega Planet Ocean GMT (also ceramic). After weeks of thinking, I finally decided to get the Omega because I had just got a Rolex Sub-C date this past xmas, and I felt that the GMT Master was just too similar to the Sub, as far as the shape and size. I'm not a big fan of the GMT Master's polished center links either.

So I went to my local Omega boutique to try on the Planet Ocean GMTs in person. They were really nice (especially the blue/orange GoodPlanet edition), but the boutiques don't give any discounts and sell at MSRP.

I got a hold of my AD, where I've bought from in the past, and he happened to have one the GoodPlanet edition Planet Oceans in stock. He gave me a really great deal on it, and I jumped on it. He sized the bracelet before sending it to me, and also installed the new Omega adjustable clasp (Part# STZ001154) for me. The adjustable clasp is kind of like Rolex's glidelock clasp, where you can make micro adjustments without the need for any tools.

It finally came in the mail, and here are some pics:

Outer box:

Inside the outer box:

Wooden presentation box, owner's manual, warranty and pictogram cards, and a certificate of authenticity:

The GoodPlanet special wooden presentation box is really nice, with the map of the world engraved on the top lid:

The watch itself:

Omega's in-house caliber 8605 movement:

I bought one of Omega's new extendable foldover rack-and-pusher clasps (Part# STZ001154) and had my my AD install it on my new watch. The original clasp that came with the watch is on top, and the bigger, extendable clasp is the one on the bottom:

Here's the clasp on its shortest position. You simply push the button on the inside of the clasp and extend it if you want more room:

Here's the clasp fully extended. It can extend to almost 10mm extra:

Outside of the clasp in its shortest setting:

Outside of the clasp, fully extended:

Lume shot. The minute hand and the little pip on the 24 hour mark on the bezel glows green. Everything else has a bluish glow to them:

Excellent lume on this watch:

Some wrist shots:

Here's a another wrist shot taken from a few days ago at work:

The watch changes colors, depending on how the light hits it. In direct sunlight it's definitely blue, but in the shade, it turns dark, almost looks black.

The blue/orange combination is awesome. I think Omega really nailed it with this one.

I'm also really pleased with the bigger case size (43.5mm on the Omega vs the 40mm Rolex). It has a lot of wrist presence, has a good weight to it, and feels very substantial and high quality.

I love this watch so far, and I'm sure it will last me for many years to come.

I hope you guys liked the pics. Let me know what your thoughts are.

Congrats! It's a great watch, I'd like to have one myself but I think it's a bit large for my girlie little wrist.

Great pics and review, thanks for sharing!

That watch is stunning, you're right omega have nailed it with that colour combo. It's a great feeling have a watch that's connected with work, I've been working in the oil & gas subsea sector and having recently bought a PO (even though I don't get near the ocean) has strangely given me a good feeling about work and the watch😄
Congratulations...it looks fantastic on your wrist...great shot👏

After 30 years in the waiting.......GMT IIc

Nice watch. I'm glad to see the new adjustable bracelet fits this bracelet. I have been pondering buying the clasp and just trying, but now I know there is no doubt. Thanks again.
