New Sub Date, Need Help

Can’t seem to set watch so that minute hand reaches minute marker at same time second hand strikes 12.

Try hacking the watch - i.e. pulling out the crown until the second hand stops. But do this when the second hand exactly hits 0 (12 o'clock). THEN set the time to an exact minute and all should line up perfectly. And ideally come up on the time by advancing it (clockwise). This will take up any backlash in the gears and give the most precise setting position.

Simple.

Hack the second hard when it reaches 12 - set the time - push in the crown.

Kinda this. You may have to fiddle a bit to get the right formula. My sub seems to do better when taking up lash in the gears counter clockwise. You also have to learn the gearlash tolerance of your watch. I'm not sure what it is supposed to be but mine appears to be around 15-20 seconds. Which means that the best possible accuracy of the minute hand is a bit in front of the hash mark or a bit behind but usually on. I'm actually a little OCD about the hands lining up...
