almost a horror story
since i'm stuck in bed with the flu, i'm going to share a story that happened to my father... my dad about 20 or so years ago purchased 4 rolex's from an ad in hongkong. 1 for himslef, 1 for his brother, the other for his other brother and the last for my grandfather. they were identical watches, all presidential rolex's of that era... about 3 years ago, my dad finally decided to have his watch cleaned and calibrated in the rolex store itself ( apparently, they only do repair and registration but i'm sure you guys already knew that). anyway, while surrendering his watch to the service personnel they refused to accept the watch saying that it was a fake.my dad almost had a heart attack having to find out that his rolex was a fake 20 or so years later.
well, the silver lining is that it was the bracelet/band that was the knock off but the watch ilself was original.so the service center removed the bracelet and returned it to him.he asked me recently to canvass a bracelet for him but the cost of the new band is almost half the cost of a new watch... moral of the story, don't buy from anyone that you do not trust or know even if they are ad's... and have your new watched immediately registered to make sure it's genuine and to give you peace of mind.. |

Not to the same degree as a Rolex gold bracelet, I had a similar experience.
I had bought a gold chain at a local Jewelery store. A few years later, the chain needed repairing, so I took back to the same store we bought it from. The guy refused to take the chain in for repair telling me it wasn't gold. Bugger him, Either he didn't know or that store sold me fake chain. Needless to say, we don't shop there anymore.

Bogey, that is an amazing story. However, if the watch had never been serviced or out of your father's hands, I would think he would be in a position to go back to that AD (assuming it's still around) for restitution. Although proving the bracelet had never been removed would be next to impossible.
What of the other three Prezzies purchased at that time? But the moral is correct. I purchased my ExpII (slightly) second hand, but from a very reputable shop, but still marched it straight to Rolex Canada to have it inspected and have the serial number put under my name. |

atomic,
yes, it will be hard to prove but i believe the shop still exists in hong kong. the 3 other watches: my dad didn't want to let his brothers know cause he might get blamed for it since they all paid full price for it, i personally, didn't want to ask them either... |

I bought my YM second hand, and although I purchased it from an AD, I always had this very small question in the back of my mind about it's authenticity. Of course, it was real in every way, which was confirmed when I sent it to Rolex Canada for service.
You just can't be too careful! |

At least the head was real. Too bad about the bracelet.
But if you can't trust an AD, then who can you trust? Glad I have an AD that I trust. |

It makes me more mad than anything that the few bad eggs out there give Asia a bad name, but whats funny is that I bet you that the number of real Rolexes sold in china probably equal the number of fakes sold given the lifestyle and the number of ppl there are over there HAHAHAHA. I am glad it ended up being real, but what about the other 3?
