Just got this watch about a week ago and wanted to share some initial impressions. In short... great watch!

I already had a 2254.50 which is similar in size and look. I always liked the sword hands and the 41mm size is perfect for my wrist. So, when I started to look for a relatively inexpensive GMT this seemed like a good choice.

The differences from the 2254.50 are as follows:

1. Handy GMT function. Love the red hand and red GMT script on the dial.

2. Bezel is the 24 hour bezel and is split into black (for the night time hours) and silver (for the day time hours). Some find this too flashy. I quite like it.

3. No helium escape valve.

4. Wears a bit higher on the wrist (not as bad as some... but clearly a thicker watch than my 2254.50).

5. Great "50th Anniversary" inscription on the case back.

Got lots of compliments on the watch to date (likely because of the flashy bezel). Keeping time to a consistent -4 sec per day.

Not one you see in the wild often but I have seen lots of minty ones come up for sale over the last couple months. I was able to get a nice head only example from Scott Grossman.

Nice! I had the Great White version for a while and loved it. I flipped it to raise funds for my AP and it is one of the few watches that I've sold and regret selling.

2 other differences to note:

1. No pearl in the bezel of the 2534.50.

2. There is a white box around the date at the 3 position on the 2534.50.

I am clearly spending too much time looking at my new watch!

Can you set the hour hand independently?

Yes you can. First stop when you unscrew the crown winds the watch. Second stop set hour hand. Third stop sets time in the usual way.

I will need to find the manual if I ever want to change the GMT hand.

Yes the primary hour hand jumps 1 hr at a time using the crown.

You pull the crown all the way out and rotate to move the minute hand and both the hour and GMT hands advance along with the minutes.

I love my 2534...great watch,sturdy performance...I've worn it in horse riding and all other activities where I shouldn't really be wearing a watch and never missed a beat...looks awesome too,in my subjective opinion. :)

Had a waiter give me a very nice compliment me on this one at a restaurant this week.

He was a longtime Seamaster owner and fan.

He had not heard of TRF, so I returned the favour by turning him on to this site and the Omega section in particular. One good turn deserves another.

Mine has kept time to +1 Sec day for the last 8 years. It's the most accurate watch I've owned and I've owned a few. Probably just lucky but it's a great GMT and the visibility factor with those hands and that lume is great.

First off, I've a weakness for the GMT complication generally. When I first saw this reference, and it's sibling the Great White, it was right here on TRF and they were already discontinued. Prices on both of them have been climbing steadily since I've tracked them for 2-3 years. After I acquired my 116713 I pretty much targeted this reference. I couldn't decide between the black or white dial versions so I decided to buy whichever one I located first. That was this one, the 50th anniversary black dial, two tone bezel. Then I went and bought the Great White anyway, LOL!

I really love this watch. Both of mine are on the Speedy bracelet as that is my preference, but that's strictly personal taste. They have been at home in the rotation since acquisition. They simply refuse to take a "time out" in the bank vault.

Just got it back from a complete service and it looks great.

Spent the last 6 weeks wearing my 2254 (the diver version), so it was not a great hardship.

Still, very nice to have it back, and it is my "go to" watch again.

To set the GMT hand use the 3rd stop to set it to local, or UTC, whatever zone you prefer. You can't jump or set the GMT hand independently. Then use the 2nd stop to set the hour hand to the 2nd time zone. The bezel can be rotated for a 3rd time zone if you like. It sets exactly the same way as my GMT Master ll which makes it easy for me. I keep the GMT hand set to my home time and jump the hour hand to whatever the local time is. Also to set the date you can just rotate the hour hand while it is running to preserve accuracy.

This watch is one tough, good looking performer. It has been my beater for 12 years. Fishing, boating, diving, working in the yard, the office, remodeling the kitchen, and my kids' weddings. It looks great with a suit/Tux sleeve or covered in fish guts. Mine is off at Nesbit's spa and dude ranch for R+R. I eagerly await it's return.
