Is it okay to replace parts using an independent watchmaker?
If i do a sapphire crystal change (a genuine rolex one) with an independent watchmaker, does that void my warranty??
Despite being a genuine rolex part, can Rolex know that i have had work done on the watch? what if i am out of warranty but send the watch to RSC, can they refuse to service it because work was done by someone else? thanks |

What's wrong with your crystal? Is it broken?
If the watch is still under warranty why would you give it to an independent watchmaker to replace the crystal? During the warranty period nobody may touch your watch (working on it) otherwise the warranty will be voided.

of course scratched crystal is not covered by rolex warranty. i also want to replace a bezel insert which has a scratch and i imagine is also not covered. purchasing gen parts elsewhere and having an independent fit it will be much cheaper than having rolex do the whole thing. my question is whether rolex will know that work was done on it. If they are gen parts then surely theres no way of them knowing. If they do have a way of knowing, then of course i understand warranty is voided (i only have a few months left anyway so its not a big deal). so my next question is whether RSC will refuse to service a watch that's been worked on elsewhere. |

Having your Rolex worked on by anything other than a Rolex Service centre or authorised representative voids your warranty. Who knows whether Rolex have secret seals or mechanisms to know whether your watch was (or was not) opened?
The RSC will always service a genuine watch. They will simply charge for the work required. |

Have you seen genuine parts price on the black market? Specifically sapphire and inserts? You may be shocked.

It will void the warranty for sure!
I really doubt it will be cheaper if done by an independent but it is your watch and your money.

How often would you replace your crystal? Is it something that you are going to do over and over, just because of scratching? In any event, there is nothing wrong with an independent doing the work. Rolex will always service an authentic Rolex watch, so you do want to ensure that you are using authentic parts. Chrono24 is not a parts house, so don't believe everything you see advertised as truthful. If you go the independent route, don't worry about the warranty too much. They are seldom needed, so you weigh your future risk with cost and expediency.
