Help with collection - John Mayer vs. Nautilus vs. Aquanat
Hey guys -
I need some help deciding on my next watch. In my collection, I have a 116613lb, 116655, 126618lb. I am thinking of getting the 116508 John Mayer. However, I can get an aquanat cheaper or a Nautilus on leather strap for the same price. I have been wanting to venture out into Patek for a little while and for sure that is where I'm going next. But I really like the green dial daytona. I don't have never owned a daytona and I feel like that one is the one to get. So question is: Buy the John Mayer daytona or go directly to Patek. |

On one hand, you have cornered the market on Rolex sport watches so a Patek would be a nice break. On the other hand, everyone needs a full YG Daytona in their collection.
Since I don’t like Nautilus on a strap and I like a YG Daytona over an Aquanaut, I’m going JM Daytona here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't like the Daytona. I have no need for a chronograph with no date function. Get an Aquanaut and be prepared for you mindset to change on watches. Once you go Patek, buying another Rolex will likely be a thought from the past

Also, it sounds like you prefer the Daytona but feel peer pressure to get a Patek, because allegedly that is what a WIS is supposed to do in this scenario. I’ve been there, and I’d suggest you follow your heart and not the forum voices in your head.

Sell all the watches you have and buy an Aquanaut and the John Mayer. Easy.

I appreciate my Aquanaut—it’s incredibly comfortable and has such an understated elegance. My 5167 is truly a favorite! If I ever had to choose just one watch to wear for the rest of my life, this would be it for me!

for a chrono, i would get a speedmaster. at your price point, consider the apollo 11 anniversary in moonshine gold. (30-40k). if you want to stay in rolex, you have many sports models, i would consider a DD40.

Daytona, and later Aquanaut with bracket and rubber strap ( you can do that for Aquanaut but not for Nautilus.

If the 5164 Aquanaut is an option, that's the way I'd go.
Otherwise, Daytona it is. |

I have the JM and a 5167r, two of my favourite watches in the collection. Maybe Daytona by a smidge as it’s a special reference in Rolex catalogue

Help with collection - John Mayer vs. Nautilus vs. Aquanat
Neither.
I think both of those watches are very overrated. JM Daytona wasn’t even popular before JM talked about it in an interview… Aquanaut on the other hand is too simplistic IMO. I really wanted to like it, because I want a sports PP in my collection, but seems that there is no way to avoid Nautilus :) If you want the best of both watches get AP RO with a new green dial. Very classy looking watch that is truly special for the whole industry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

To me, the beauty of owning a Nautilus is having the bracelet.

Not a fan of any of the options. The JM is overhyped in my opinion and the green dial is too green. The PP watches are not all that and significantly overpriced for what they are, even at retail. Chasing the hype is OK, just see it for what it is. PM Daytona on a bracelet is what I would do but not the green dial.

A PM Daytona is beautiful but wearable. It would be worth looking at other dials and decide if the premium for green is worth it to you.

No chance I'd choose a Nautilus on a strap over the other two options.
Really, the best option would be the Aquanaut and JM. It also is a bit odd to have both the 116613LB and the 126618LB. Unless there are some extreme sentimental reasons, that's very redundant. The 126618LB is superior dimensionally and in the fact it's all gold. I'd sell it and move that into a GMT of some sort. |

Please be aware the Aquanaut's sweep second hand cannot be hacked.
This drove me crazy. |

I’m seeing you have a two tone bluesy and a full gold version- why?

You beat me to it. 2-tone and full yellow bluesy feels like overkill for the size of the collection…
