Rolex Hunting in Hong Kong 2024

Hello All,

I’ve come to Hong Kong for work recently and started browsing some ADs and secondary shops here. First AD I visited actually had some stock! (Some DJs and Sky Dweller actually available). What an amazing place for a watch enthusiast!

I’m not familiar with the area or the market here so open to some suggestions. Would like to find a GMT for at least slightly better than the US market, but I know it’s very difficult.

Thanks!

Are you able to try on any GMT or Daytona at the Rolex AD in Hong Kong?

It’s been hit or miss. Some ADs were very welcoming and had GMTs to try and would take information for future message. Some ADs were outright rude, don’t really understand why they even pay rent and keep a brick and mortar going. Almost pulled the trigger on a Batman, but already have one in the collection. Market here seems to have eased a bit with a little less scarcity.

Hong Kong is an amazing place for pre owned watches but I guess it depends what you’re looking for

The HK watch scene has gone completely mental. Their pricing is horrendous. Good old days are just a faint memory now.

Japan seems much more reasonable.

Yes my experience is either they are super rude and dismissive, or they tell you they'll only sell a Rolex if you buy a Tudor. This is at official Rolex ADs.

I've lived in Hong Kong a long time. It's a very corrupt place and obsessed with money. So I suspect the ADs either (1) sell directly to the grew market or (2) sell to clients only if they can get commission on a Tudor sale.

The grey market is huge here, but markups are high.

Will be travelling to HK next week, gonna look around at vintage rolex. I think HK has a huge selection to choose from.

Check out Uptick Watch Reviews on YouTube - he does a watch safari where he takes a walkthrough look at a lot of secondary dealers in HK. It’s quite astonishing how many watches are available on the used market.

Have a look at Berne Horology in Central. I've been there a few times, nice store.

I concur HK ADs are either selling direct and bundle to grey dealers, or (2) super VIPs with fat profit (past sales or bundle sales). Grey market is huge but markups are comparably high, like any other countries around the world.

I don't even bother to walk into any ADs these days. Life is too short to take those shits from the ADs. The ADs are super rude and dismissive simply because they have nothing to sell!

HK is awesome for watch window shopping, but actual shopping not so.

One of the few decent greys left is VIP Station, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Agreed, if you can't find what you want in Tokyo, you are looking in the wrong places.

When I was in Tokyo (Oct 2023), I visited a couple of shops and found everything and anything I could possibly want. Quite amazing actually!

When factoring in USD / JPN exchange rate, and no "excise tax", even the prices were damn good, compared to other worldwide locations.
