So Cal GTG in Beverly Hills-Cancelled Until Further Notice

Obviously, due to Covid 19, we cannot do our BH Annual Event.

I was going to try to make this a Semi-annual Event, but we know that did not happen.

Last, November, I left the following note in the thread:

"We must have left an impression over the years at the South Beverly Gril, because they recognized us and knew who we are! Once again, the food and the service was excellent!"

Well, we did leave an impression, unfortunately it was negative.

We had so many people show up and used so many tables, the SBG had numerous complaints from other patrons, about us being a little boisterous and clogging the areas between tables.

I got a call a week later from the Manager, that although they have enjoyed us in the past, the size of our group has become too disruptive to their business. She requested we find another Venue. We are of course, welcome as individuals, but, not as a group!

I have tried other Beverly Hills alternatives, but, they are all very pricey, $2,000-3,000.

If anyone has any connections, contacts, or ideas for a location, please, let me know! Free, with food purchased would be best, as I would rather not get into the position of collecting money. That never seems to work out well!

Larry, I feel like these days restaurants do need our business. I think any restaurant would be happy to host us... probably outdoors.

A few weeks back, Porsche Club of LA had a gathering at The Victorian in Santa Monica for its members. Perhaps we can do the same.

If you have any ideas that would be great, especially now that we are in a "Red Condition"!

I will check again with South Beverly Grill. Maybe they have a different attitude now.

I would like to see how everyone is doing!

I just saw this thread... its a shame they don't want us there anymore. Not a very professional business decision in my opinion. Looking forward to the next meetup as the last one seems so long ago (back in 2019).

When were you planning for the next meet? summer? or winter again? If summer, perhaps an open outdoor space somewhere would be appropriate for the times.

fwiw, i think any large restaurant should be happy to accomodate us

To be perfectly honest and fair, we were having the drawing for the Rolex Forums Watch, donated by the great sponsors.

There were about twice the number of people we usually have and some drinks were flowing. We spread out into the aisles and made it a little difficult for people to get to their tables and be served, while we were having the drawing and the raffle. We might have been a little noisy, too! It was a great time!!

I am open to anytime or ideas. if we have it soon, it will not be to hot for an outside venue. During the summer, BH can get a little warm. If anyone knows of a venue, let me know.

That looks interesting.

Anyone have any concerns or ins with the place?

They have inside and outside dining. With today's current concerns, the outdoor looks like it might work.

What does everyone think?

That works for me! The only concern I have is that a month ago a lady was shot for her watch there... If there's really going to be 30 of us, I don't think that would happen lol. If Il Pastaio doesn't work out, I may have a place in Glendale with middle eastern food that may work. Il Pastaio is more centrally located, so it may be better

I’m personally good with any spot you pick! If you’re willing to venture out of BH and want some other suggestions, let me know and I can suggest a few spots to consider. Perch or the rooftop bar/restaurant on top of the Wayfarer come to mind.

Glendale has great middle eastern/Armenian food and outdoor seating, plus the traffic is a little less congested than the west side. Just saying...

The place I was recommending in Glendale is called Raffis Place. Probably one of the most popular armenian/middle eastern restaurants in California. They take RSVP for groups over 15 I believe. We should do some sort of poll to see if people prefer that or Il Pastaio.

I was about to mention this. Unfortunately the outdoor seating locations of any restaurant that are on the side of the road are going to be targets for theft. Beverly Hills, Rolex show-and-tell, and outdoor dining is a recipe for disaster. “Rolex forum” gathering is just going to attract a lot of unwanted attention.

I would recommend choosing a place with an outdoor seating that doesn’t have access for random pedestrians or a drive by vehicle.

Based on the above images I'd assume Il Pastaio has a large indoor seating area that could work. Alternatively, Raffi's Place also has indoor seating. I think we could plan this for some time in early June, to give people enough of a heads-up on the meetup.

thats a fair point, maybe for an extra layer of discretion the final date/place can just be messaged to the attendees? just throwing an option out there

That is what made it so simple at the Beverly Grill.

I will get in touch with the Victorian to see what their requisites will be.
