Help identify mark on dial of my rolex 16800
Hi All, I'm seeking opinions about a blemish on the dial of my watch. Have you seen anything like this before? I did just receive the watch back from a servicing and I noticed it right away. It's visible without a loupe. The mark is above the N in submariner.

That's unfortunate. Looks like a small magnifying glass icon. Who did the service?

I assume this happened during the service, yes? (Do you have a pre-service photo of the dial?) As mentioned above, it does look like an oil stain.
I'd have the watchmaker, or a different one, try to remove the mark with Rodico putty. It's worth a shot, and I don't think it could make it worse. Even if you can't completely remove the mark, you might be able to lessen it. Good luck. |

Help identify mark on dial of my rolex 16800
Send it to Greg @ True Patina
He can remove it without messing up the dial. Send the watchmaker the bill IF you do have the documentation that Swish77 stated above. |

These are the pre-service photos I have from earlier posts I did about this watch and the mark doesn't appear there. Would you consider these pics to be conclusive?

Yes, it may be oil. It's actually below the E as well. it's 3 dimensional, so at first I thought it might be touch up paint or something. But since it's below the E I think it may be oil that ran a bit. Any hopes it will dry out and go away with time?

I'd raise it with watchmaker - get them to remove it.
Perhaps a bit counterintuitively, you've a bit more leeway with matte over a gilt gloss.... where you should never try it . It's unlikely to dry out even vaguely same shade. If they can't, they owe you a new £2k (used of course) matte dial (which they can claim off their professional indemnity insurance). I used to run a PI Insurance Company, so know what coverage they 'should', but not necessarily 'do', have in place!

beautiful watch, such a shame, looks like there is more of the stuff, whatever it is, on the S and E in SUPERLATIVE

I agree there is more of the stuff on the S and E in SUPERLATIVE. There's also a black marking on the 8 o'clock hour marker that wasn't in the "before" pictures I posted above.
And if I'm really getting picky, there's quite a bit of lint under the glass. For instance, at the tip of the second hand and above the 9 o'clock marker, that are visible without a loupe. I would have thought some air duster would have cleared that up before sealing the watch. I'll call the watchmaker this week and see how they respond. |

got watch back yesterday from watchmaker
Hi All, I wanted to provide an update to this earlier post. I contacted the watchmaker and sent the watch back in order to remove the spot. I must say I'm happy with the result- would never even notice it was there. He also removed the lint from under the glass as well. All in all, I'm happy with the way the watch turned out.
The watch is running great after the service and the new crown, crystal and second hand I'm happy with. |
