Sadly my longtime favorite dealer is hanging it up
Jim at Continental Jewelers in Washington, DC, has decided to close out his watch business. As many of you recall, Jim's leased location was demolished for new construction several years ago. Because of his age (he will be 83 in October) and Omega's move from ADs to boutiques, Jim decided not to go with the expense of a new show room which meant losing his AD status with Omega.
He has been able to continue business as usual but now due to his wife's illness, his intent is to be closed down by the end of the year. He has a couple of hundred watches that he needs to move so if you are looking for a new one, now is the time to give Jim a call. Jim asked me to thank all of his customers and forum friends for their prayers and support. |

Thanks for the heads up. I'd spoken to him a couple of times back when I couldn't live without a Skyfall AT. I still don't know why I don't own that watch.

Yes, I just heard the new when I went to his shop on Sunday. I took a PO titanium off of his hands. Excellent guy. Sad to see him close it up.

Known Jim since 2001 when I was working in DC and couple of months ago he told me that he'll be retired at the end of this year....I've been passing words around for Jim to my friends. I asked him about Gemini 4 several times (the only Omega that I am gonna get) but he can't get it. Thanks Fr. John for mentioning Jim's retirement here. I'll miss him for sure.

Fr. John is a gem, and I am sad that I was about to get an smp gmt bond from Jim but his wife was not well and we couldn't seal the deal and then later I made another purchase...I now wish I'd have taken the great deal from this very kind gentleman...my best wishes to him and his family, always.

Jim has just sent me a closeout inventory list.
I hope to post access to the list on the sales corner soon. |

I imagine because 'Fr' John was engaging in selling on behalf of another in a forum other than the sales forum, where such activity should occur and where all other members are required to limit their sales activity. 'Fr' John was simply evading the forum rules presuming they apply to others but not him.

plus, contrary to the original post, the ADs who have been supplying this grey seller have decided to no longer do so, regardless of whether Omega terminated their relationship with this previous AD, or the situation of his building/landlord.

I will say that I have bought several watches over the years from Jim and found him knowledgable and completely honest, a true pleasure to deal with. As I understand it, when the relationship with Omega ended like so many other AD's, due to the remodel requirements, he was able to still aqcuire watches from long time friends that remained AD's. They come with authorized AD stamped and dated warranty cards. If the posting containing the closeout list was against the rules, it's been removed, I don't think there was anything but good intentions in posting it. |
