Questions on new 2014 moonwatch

Couldn't resist wearing this on the new velcro, so if it goes as planned I will be posting an unboxing in the coming days.

I know the sapphire sandwich is neither a true moonwatch nor NASA space qualified, but after hearing so much about the robustness of the 1861/1863 and how little have changed since Apollo 11, I'm drawn to enjoy it with a display back model.

The trade off is sapphire over hesalite, which I'm ok with.

Couple questions:
Do we know if this model still comes with a red dot?
How well has yours held up, any reports of it failing within warranty period?

In terms of sourcing at MSRP $6250, would you:
1) Joma at 37% off, no Omega warranty
2) A non-AD in DC at 28% off, warranty another AD stamped
3) Local AD with repeat business at 16% off with tax?

I don't think Omega is using the "red dots" anymore.
I have never heard of one of these movements having problems,(that was not owner caused) within the warranty period.
I would recommend AD or trusted seller here where you will get the Omega warranty.
Good luck!

Thanks guys for the quick reply.

I would buy from a trusted seller and have contacted a few, but they only have the hesalite/solid back model in stock (or the previous version without the new screw bracelet and strap set).

I don't think it matters, unless you have a preference. The Omega warranty for non-coaxial movements isn't that long, anyway. It's not as if Omega will refuse to service the watch if there's an issue--it would just be out-of-pocket. This particular movement is quite robust. If you like your AD, then spend the extra money.

To clarify, the local AD offered 25% + 9% tax. Without tax it would be a no-brainer compared to Continental at 28%.

Stopped by the AD today to try on. Excellent legibility and an all around classic silhouette.

Didn't walk out with it though, no impulse buy!

Recently bough a hesalite crystal Speedmaster (other watch a Polar EXP II) and love it, gets lots of wrist time.

Have you thought about reaching out to trusted sellers here? May be able to be a good deal. I bought mine that way at a great price.

However you do acquire it, I don't think you will be disappointed!
