Incoming Urban Jürgensen Alfred 40
I have a milestone to celebrate and right in time for the occasion, I received my 40mm Alfred from Urban Jürgensen today. Very happy to say the least.
The grenage dial I find very charming and relaxing, lots of character, and the P4 movement is just stunning. As Swaye said, it wears closer to 39mm than 40. My Big8 feels larger on the wrist. Super excited to be sporting this on my wrist.

Wow. What a stunning watch, huge congrats! Looking forward to a full report / review in the coming days (if possible if course). What are your thoughts on the 40mm Alfred vs the 42? Please...more photos

Thanks everyone. Took some more photos today of the entire package.
With this Alfred, I now have three watches in three different metals, all 40mm. The Alfred actually looks slightly bigger than the Big8 in these photos, but that's just an illusion, the Big8 wears larger. The presentation box is really nice and is actually useful, as it can be used also as a jewelry tray with cuff link slots. The insert in the box can be flipped to store the watch roll that comes with it along with a slot for one watch. Considering putting this tan ostrich strap on it. UJ had just this one left.

Regarding 40mm vs 42mm Alfred, I'll post a new thread a little later with side-by-side comparison photos and my thoughts.

Thanks guys.
Here's a direct sunlight shot. I just love that dial grain.

Wow. Looks amazing in the light. I love how the grenage dial seems to kill any glare and almost lift / elevate the hands; such a subtle, yet dynamic dial...and watch for that matter.

Thanks guys, I'm really enjoying it. Put an alligator strap on it two days ago, just to see how it fits. The Alfred has a bit more of a casual feel about it, so I think maybe alligator is too formal. I'll try ostrich leather later, but I really want to try ostrich leg at some point. I think a grey ostrich leg strap from Equus Leather would look great.
I also think their Cuir de Russie would be a great fit. The bison leather strap it comes with is super soft and comfortable, so maybe I'll just stick with the original.

I love that cuir de russie. There's a seller on Esty, Tkach, that uses Russian calf from J and FJ Baker; great quality and workmanship and excellent prices. I got one for my dad as a gift. I'm unaffiliated, just a happy customer.
I always thought a shell cordovan strap would be great on the Alfred, very classy, yet very understated, just like the watch. I think the gator looks great on it, but with that watch it's tough to go wrong. Can't wait to see the ostrich and agree that the grey would look incredible. If happiness is having options, you should be really happy. |

Funny you mention shell cordovan, I have been looking for that too. Equus doesn't work with cordovan, but I have been considering ABP as an option. The Alfred is quite versatile when it comes to straps, the only thing that doesn't seem to work that well is high-gloss leather. High gloss alligator seems to clash a little with the grainy matte dial.
Thanks for the Tkach recommendation, will check him out.
