Parmigiani vs Vacheron?

Obviously that's a big question?

To narrow it down to a couple of pieces I am lusting over... Two modern dress (ish) pieces. Both used. Value is within maybe 1-2k so not really a consideration. Which would you choose?

Vacheron has better history, WIS recognition, maybe easier resale?

Parmigiani looks unusual and has a mystique to it.

Both are well finished, steel cases, nicely sized (can be a shirt and suit watch or a smart casual sweater watch) and buying preowned would negate some of the criticisms some maybe have about list prices/resale etc. Both would be within a broad collection with other more casual watches.

Both are really appealing. Anyone have experience with either?

I have never owned a Vacheron (although I have been hot/cold on the Overseas dualtime) but do have a Parmigiani. To me it all depends on which piece excites you and makes you want to put it on the wrist. That’s why I purchased the Parmigiani. While the movement may not be up to VC level, the case and design are much more interesting. To me the Parmigiani has more “wrist appeal”.

I think the resale for both will not be great so you may as well go with the one you like the best. Also that fifty six is not the best version to go for as it lacks the Geneva seal and I noticed it is not finished as well compared to the other fifty six models such as the day date which is lovely, has the Geneva seal and only a little more than the date model on secondary market.

Visually, the Vacheron is much more appealing to me; taking into account the history of the brand and expertise in movements only widens the gap.

I've also toyed with the dual time so that's interesting. Ultimately though I decided the thickness would put me off. The three hand 4500v is great but I'm trying to consolidate (maybe with a small cash injection...) and that would require selling more watches than I would like.

A dressier/smart casual watch appeals and these two are reasonable on the second hand market at £6-7.5k.

I'm still half considering a 4500v given strap versatility but can't narrow down the dial colour choice, and would also need more aggressive sales of current watches, so haven't taken that any further yet.

I would buy both preowned so not that concerned about resale but obviously realise neither will be easy to move on.

Fair point on the Geneva seal and the day date suggestion, that is a lovely watch!

Some of the movement shots of the parmigiani look superb. I haven't seen in person but quality looks great.

Thanks for your input. History is no contest, VC wins. Same for movement expertise but in relation to these two watches the quality seems comparable. Everything I read about Parmigiani seems to show a really high quality product.

Out of those 2 models the parmigiani is nicer. I have owned watches in both brands and find them very comparable. Both also have poor resale.

Well I would certainly love a 56 day date for sub 10K. Where can I find them?

The VC hands down. There is too much going on with the other watch and I think I would be tired of it in a bit.

Have you considered the blue dial VC? That one is lovely

or get the DayDate :) I'm bias towards that

I would also go for the VC as well, in the blue dial, I have seen it and it is very nice.

The Parmigiani has a very nice design and finishing, but I would rather have the Vacheron.
