AP- How Important is Original Papers vs. Archive?
Hi All
I am in the market for a 15300or, as we know they were produced a while back and you can imagine many owners lost papers just like any Rolex etc. I am just curious how much value should be considered when looking at the pricing. A watch with Archive paperwork only (along with box) is a good 5k or so cheaper than a set of box/original papers just as an example. I know 100% that selling/trading it later if needed you will take a hit on a "naked" watch, but that being said the price of entry is much lower. Is it worth getting a full package watch that is over 15 years old? Or would the archive paperwork suffice, and not affect future value too much? Thank you so much in advance! |

For me, archive or service papers are good enough for an older watch. However, I would definitely “buy the seller”. Only renowned sellers.

If the watch is in good shape I would personally be ok with archives. I purchased a watch only blue 15300 that was serviced at Clearwater. I eventually sold it without any problems whatsoever.

Thanks guys, just trying to make sure I make a logical decision. To me, having at least the archive papers is good enough, and the few I have been eyeing are in great shape inside and out!
Now just to decide if it is a proper replacement for my Oysterflex Daytona.... this AP has got me itching as it is the only one that can fit my tiny wrist and personally love 18k watches on strap. |

If you are an extreme completist collector, then originals are irreplaceable but most people don't care that much.

If you plan to keep it, then why not go with archive papers.
