No love for the anniversary SD43?

The 50th anniversary Sea Dweller 126600 is bulked up to 43mm with red lettering and cyclops date.

I'm curious as to why it is pretty much the only Rolex Professional selling on the secondary market for less than retail.

I had one and sold it because I felt the proportions were off (hands too small) and I also felt the bezel had too much play.

Curious as to how others feel about this model and why the "poor" performance on the secondary market.

It’s the Rolex people like to nitpick. I purchased mine when the watch was released and I will never be without my SD43 . Prices on the secondary market be Damned my SD43 isn’t going anywhere except on my wrist .

I think the SD has always been quite niche. Historically it was always very similar in looks to the Sub, but a lot more money which put off the casual buyer. It's also always been quite a thick piece (and still is today), so it's not as versatile as a Sub. With the 43mm version it's now a bit more distinguished from the Sub, but I think buyers who want a larger Rolex tend to go "all the way" and get a DSSD instead. Also a lot of folks still complain about the cyclops on the SD43.

I've said before on here, you really have to want an SD to buy one.

(I too used to own an SD43 but sold it after it developed the 32xx timekeeping issues. That said, I also agree that the hands always looked a little too small for the rest of it).

No love for the anniversary SD43?

I purchased this as my first Rolex. I wanted the sub but always liked the look of the SD43 & the AD had one in stock. It looks perfect on my 7.5” wrist & I don’t mind the extra weight. I always know it’s on my wrists versus my NTTD where I sometimes forget that I’m wearing it.

It’s a cool watch. I just prefer the 5 digit SD. Such an iconic watch

Same here. I like them, but the 16600 was the coolest IMO. Plus the 43mm probably throws some off. It is indeed a very cool watch though.

I like the SD43 but I don’t love it like I do the 16600. I love some features like the red text and fully graduated bezel but was turned off by the addition of the cyclops.

I don't get why it hasn't taken off with vintage collectors. The red lettering is a perfect compliment to any collection that has a double red SD or red Sub?
Plus it's a nice size (sub is too small for some and the deep sea too big).

Plenty of love if you can wear it comfortably but it was the most uncomfortable Rolex watch for most of us that has owned it. That raised tapered case back digs in to the wrist unlike any other Rolex model including its big brother DSSD. Creates a painful pressure point regardless how it is sized.

I wonder this too. I’m guessing the cyclops was added as a modern distinguishing feature. But it gives some pause.

Extremely uncomfortable watch. Nothing else to it other than it's a torture device in the wrist.

I still think it's a great reference. Lots of divers in the line. I just prefer the DSSD and Sub.

It’s a great reference in my book.

The Sub is still my favorite diver, it’s just more wearable as a daily driver (to me).

Sold a month ago with difficulty, this had never happened to me with a Rolex. 16600 It's the Sea-Dweller

Same here. Bought the first my AD received. It gets more wrist time than anything else I own.

I have been an owner several times since introduction. I understand the issues some have with the watch and I do think it is all a matter of personal preference. For those who have a larger wrist, mine is 7.5-7.75, it is a full size Submariner. The watch has the proportions for those who prefer a larger watch. The dial, red text and case make the watch for me.

That may be true for some people, likely depends on wrist shape and size. It's never been painful for me, feels like my other "flat" watches.

Love my SD43.

The size is awesome (7.25 inch wrist)
Fully graduated bezel gives it more of a military feeling
Build quality better than any other Rolex I’ve experienced

I have a sub as well but I feel like the SD43 is the beast mode sub - and gets more wrist time for that reason

For the same reason the black dial Deepsea 136660 is trading below retail: they're "niche" watches. People prefer the smaller, cheaper and more iconic Sub.

I've owned one, sold it, and kinda miss it.

I didn't mind the size. I wore it an entire vacation to Jackson Hole, going on hikes, boats, and out to dinner at night. Found it a pleasure to wear on a trip as an only watch.

What didn't work for me is a matte dial paired against a shiny ceramic bezel. It was a bit too much contrast for my liking.

For those with larger wrists it's the perfect watch. It's not for everyone and I'm ok with that! The rest of you can get a Sub.
