116619LB (Smurf) Daily

Considering trading my 216570 Polar for a Smurf. The smaller size, glidelock, and fun shade of blue really sing to me. Also, all the firsts it brought to the sub line.

Anyone have it as their daily or only? Photos appreciated.

Thanks & Merry Christmas!

It’s not my daily but worn in rotation for the last 6 years. The one I will not ever sell. It’s so unique and just plain gorgeous in my eyes

I wouldn’t sell the EXII. But to add this beautiful PM Sub would be awesome!

I absolutely support the trade. It is one of my favorite dials. The Smurf blue is THE one dial that I truly wish Rolex would bring back in WG and preferably no date, not that I would not buy it if it comes with a date

Sample pic from instagram.

It’s one of the best in my opinion. The new versions with the black dial smacks of cheap cost cutting. This one is gorgeous.

Fantasy piece that - 116619 has a flat dial, not sunburst.

Correct. And that’s why I don’t like it: no sunburst

I had one as an only…. Years ago. Loved it. Then had it in the collection.

It could be an only for me, but I prefer to have a few. Get it!

No comparison bw those two and you’ll have to throw in 25-30k depending on the year of the Smurf

I'm did not know you could buy Smurfs from Rolex and far as I know a Smurf was a Belgian comic and television franchise centred on a fictional colony of small blue creatures who live in mushroom-shaped houses in the forest. The Smurfs was first created and introduced as a series of comic characters by the Belgian comics artist Peyo (pen name of Pierre Culliford) in 1958, where they were known as Les Schtroumpfs. There are more than one hundred Smurf characters, and their names are based on adjectives that emphasise their characteristics, such as "Jokey Smurf", who likes to play practical jokes on his fellow smurfs. "Smurfette" was the first female Smurf to be introduced in the series. The Smurfs wear Phrygian caps, which came to represent freedom during the modern era.

The word “Smurf” is the original Dutch translation of the French "Schtroumpf", which, according to Peyo, is a word invented during a meal with fellow cartoonist André Franquin, when he could not remember the word salt.[3]

The Smurfs franchise began as a comic and expanded into advertising, films, TV series, ice cascades, video games, theme parks, and dolls and now silly names for Rolex watches. The Smurfs fulfil simple archetypes of everyday people: "Lazy Smurf", "Grouchy Smurf", "Brainy Smurf", and so on. All Smurfs, with the exception of Papa, Baby, Smurfette, Nanny and Grandpa, are said to be 100 years old. There were originally 99 Smurfs, but this number increased as new Smurf characters appeared, such as Sassette and Nanny. All of the original Smurfs were male; later female additions are Smurfette and Sassette—Smurfette being Gargamel's creation, while Sassette was created by the Smurflings but as far as I know none wear Smurf Rolex watches.

OP, the Smurf is a special watch and makes for a great everyday watch.

If I had to have only one, I think this one might be the one. I currently have a small collection including 116610LN and 116613LB and often contemplate consolidating the collection to this one.

This is currently my grail watch. I wonder how the WG holds up from semi-daily wear?

It can be a daily wear. I have worn this watch for about 3 months every day and its no different than anything else as far as wear and tear. Maybe the PCL will have a few swirls, but you look past them. Its worth the price of admission.
