A Flippers Love Affair with the 14060...

My name is Russ and I am a flipper
I bought and sold 16 watches in the past 4-5 years and completely turned over my collection in the past 4 months. I figured out that I truly enjoy the cradle to grave cycle of hunting, experiencing and selling Rolex watches.
I am fortunate to have owned many fine Rolex references - but the 14060 is THE ONLY WATCH I TRULY regretted selling (actually twice ) I sold a Z series 3 years ago and then an A series 2 years ago (I bonded with the A -ocean swims, workouts, showers, my go to watch). I sold the A because I had to go plexi.

Well I just received my 3rd 14060 from Ponycar - an unpolished T series Tritium stunner. Thick case, period correct bevels, fat crown guards, mint dial. It's on my wrist now and will be my weekend go to watch. I hope to bond with it like the A series.

Who else has bought the same reference twice or three times or more???
Cheers!
Russ

I write this while sipping a cool beverage after a day working in the yard.

Russ walks in to the RFA (Rolex Flippers Anonymous) meeting with perhaps a sense of trepidation. After he makes his formal introduction he is greeted with a warm and friendly, "Hi Russ!", and he knows he is both welcome and not alone.

I have bought and sold the same reference more than a few times. I have owned two Red Subs, 3 DRSD's, 4 White Subs, 2 1675's, 2 5512's, and 5 5513's. My explanation for this madness can be explained by two factors. First, as time goes by, collections evolve in different directions. Second, there is always the desire to upgrade, when possible, to a nicer example. With regard to the latter reason, I would say you have been very fortunate and faired quite well. Congrats to you my friend.

Russ, no worries mate!

Your illness cannot be cured, unless you urgently give up membership of TRF, but I'm sure you will enjoy your illness thoroughly. Only warning would be, DO NOT GET INTO PLEXY, as things will likely accelerate and only get much much worse.

As for being a serial flipper of 14,060s, I pardon you, my son. One of the most beautiful references in the lineup. Just make sure you keep the beauty you show in this thread. She's a stunner.

Russ, you are not alone. I have owned 4 16600 Seadwellers. I tend to hoard now rather than flip, but most of us have been there

Thanks to all you ENABLERS for posting support for my/our affliction
By the way - for those who warned against getting into plexi, as it will accentuate the disease - its too late, I have bought and sold a 16750, a meters first 5513 and my current daily wearer is a 1680

I too have the affliction. I've had most sport models more than once.

I've had 3 14060's including the one I still have. IMHO it's the best every day watch that you can put on and not worry about it. Congrats on you're newest. Two line, T dial is the best combo.

You're not alone buddy

I was a RF for a quite a while, owned many of the sport models. I'd enjoyed the process of hunting and buying (not selling), but couldn't justify owning so many expensive watches (owned 6 at one point).
Currently I own 2 Sub ND (114060, 14060M), I'd told myself that's it no more than 2 watches but my collection looks incomplete? I'm tempted to buy a 5513 or 5512?
Am I

To my way of thinking the ONLY way to know what you really like owning, it to own them...Sell them...And then own them again...
After a while you will be able to narrow down the filed of play, as it were!
Over the years I have owned and sold:
3 -1680
5 -Red 1680
4 -1665's
2- DRSD
2- 5512
3 -5513
4 Matt Dial 666
The list goes on...Boy do I need help!!!

Its a great watch to have - the swiss dial if Im not mistaken is a service dial. Original dials will have T < 25 on it.. But I may be wrong

Russ,

It's a transitional dial that they used right after the tritium dial. It was only used for a short period of time and is original to the watch. Rolex used them only in the late U-series (1998) and A-series (1999). They are luminova dials and not tritium.

I still have my 14060M. Which is my first Rolex. Flipped a 16710 for a 1675 to finally end up with this

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1366593439.671012.jpg

1967 5512

Still have my white 1680

Don't think I'll flip that but might for a birth year 1675!!!

Hey Russ,

I too, am a flipper.
And if there's one watch that I've bought and sold more times than I care to admit, it's the 14060. It's just such a great watch.

That said, I recently acquired a 5512, and I can't get it off my wrist.
I guess my point is, whether it's vintage or modern, no-date Subs are tough to beat.
Enjoy your new one, and I'll try to post some 5512 + 14060 side by side pics soon.

Maybe it's the angle of the picture, but the 50 on the bezel doesn't look right. No space between the 5 and zero....

That's right, Jason. It's the angle of the photography and lighting. There's a space between the 5 and the 0. Got me scared for a moment ;)

I thought the exact same thing, I had to look at mine to make sure it didn't look like that, thanks for clearing that one up!
