GMT 1675 - to polish or not to polish that plexi
To polish or not to polish that plexi, that is the question?
But seriously does polishing de-value or diminish from the watch originality. Should it really look as if its been through a war? All comments appreciated. Regards Steve |

Seriously? Ok. I guess you are serious. Sorry.
No. It devalues it NONE AT ALL. Polish it. It’s a piece of plastic that gets scuffed and scratched because it’s soft and vulnerable. (Incidentally, that plexiglass looks incredibly clean and smooth. Not sure which war you might be talking about) |

I'm actually more interested in the fuchsia bezel insert as they seem to be getting better and better at reproductions. I am assuming that is a reproduction similar to this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/266002825643
I am going with TO polish. currently getting great results with Maguires plastic headlight polish! Scraped the crap out of my 1675 acrylic and it did wonders! Used the rag from waxing my car right after and it came out slicker than S#!+! |

Don’t polish, each scratch is worth about $100. And see if you can document their sources.

I've owned dozens of 1675 and 16750 GMTs. I've never had one prospective buyer ask me to not polish a ratty, dinged-up crystal as part of a sale.

I would have the plexi polished if it needs it. It doesn't look bad at all in your pic though. I would wait until it gets more scratched up before polishing.

Don't polish it!
Run it over with a RV and add $$$ to the value

Hi,
Do you know if this plexy is original or aftermarket ? Could be the picture but something seems off compared to what I have seen so far with Rolex plexys. As stated earlier, can you confirm it is an aftermarket Insert ? I personally think it is always better to clearly state aftermarket parts shown on pictures here. This is only to make things easier for people coming here searching for reference pictures before buying. Regarding your question, you can of course polish your plexy but this one does not seem to need it :) Kind regards,

Yes I was joking.
That is a crappy insert but I'm sure most people would agree they are getting much much better especially the bottom on the 2's following the profile edge of the insert. The fuchsia colour still looks a bit too purple to me and not enough pink. I did worry the guys that make this stuff would just read our comments and make them better but they will just continue to make them anyway. Regarding polishing plexis, thanks for comments. I have always wondered if polishing is okay or otherwise. It does make the watch look almost like new which worried me slightly. I have polished the little fella today with Polywatch and an extremely clean cloth or you get more scratches than you started with. I discovered as long as it gets warm when polishing you'll end up with a great result. Here is the little fella with some more acceptable clothing on. |

Thanks Mo
Original bezel and insert from 1972. I don't wear it out the house with these fitted. I've never told the story but this watch was known as the unlucky family watch. My dad stopped wearing it and dumped it a drawer in the 90's. His father was a supervisor on the railways. One day my grandfather noticed men working down the line and the train had not been re-routed. He ran as fast as he could to try to warn the men but fell on the line in front the train. Obviously, not to survive. My brother and I use to wear it on and off and then we would give it back to the other when something went wrong in our lives. I finally made a settlement with my brother when he was getting divorced to pay his solicitors. I wonder if anyone else has experience an unlucky watch? |

I think the best part about plexi is that it can be polished easily!

When anything bad happened then the 1675 Rolex got blamed and it was likely to spend a protracted period of time in the kitchen drawer, sometimes years.
