Help! My Vintage Air King 5500 Crystal is Cracked
I have a 1980 Air King 5500 that is in great condition ... except for a hairline crack in the crystal that was found during a recent inspection. The crack is not visible to the naked eye. It is a linear almost microscopic hairline crack that runs parallel with the base of the crystal from 7 to 11 using numbers of the dial. The crystal is aftermarket. See my attached pictures.
My concern is that if left alone, the crack may worsen allowing moisture to enter or causing the crystal to fail completely. I am either looking to source a Rolex Crystal #12 that is sized for the 5500 or suggestions for a high quality aftermarket crystal. Any suggestions or sources for a replacement crystal is greatly appreciated! Thank you. |

Isn’t that an acrylic? You sure it’s not just a deep scratch?

Maybe you can just have it replaced at the next service. It doesn't look too distracting.

Plexi is plentiful and any decent watchmaker can put on a new one.
Check with Giovanni at the old Rolex Service Center in SF on Post
