Ceramic Seamaster

I had a great conversation about the making of the ceramic cases with a sales rep at the omega boutique.

I mentioned the only reason I haven’t bought one yet is because with a stainless steel watch you can polish and laser weld back to new without having to purchase a new case.

With the ceramics, we don’t have to worry about scratches or dings. But a cracked case is catastrophic and expensive (2/3rds the cost of the watch to replace according to the rep).

However, the rep said the way omega manufactures their ceramic cases make them less prone to cracking.

Any current owners like to share their experience? I love the look and stealth of the ceramic cases

Can’t speak for the ceramic Omega, however, Ive had this Rado since 2010. I’m sure you know Rado and Omega are sister companies. The first being known for their work in ceramic. I’ve worn this in various precarious activities and not a single scratch or chip in all these years. I’m pretty sure the Omega will handle anything just as good as this. I say go for it.

Such an interesting watch! Thanks for the feedback. I’m certainly leaning towards the ceramic Seamaster

My IWC chrono has flown of my wrist as 25kph on a bike and not a mark onto tarmac.

It is possible to hurt them, but it is hard.

I have owned numerous ceramic Omega watches and have never had an issue. I am currently looking to add the Ceramic Seamaster 300m back into the collection. I have seen pictures of Panerai cases being broken but I can not recall seeing an Omega. I am sure that someone has had the misfortune but it would be rare or it would be here for discussion. Go for it, get insurance for it and just enjoy.

I'm getting close to adding an Omega Seamaster Ceramic/Sedna Gold....Omega does ceramic very well in my opinion.

I had the ceramic and titanium seamaster and now have the ceramic and Sedna gold version. It’s my “beater” watch. Seems pretty much indestructible from what I’ve seen so far.

Thanks for sharing that info. Glad to know.

The ceramic and Sedna Seamaster is the exact reference I’m considering as my “beater” watch as well. Great to hear about your experience this far. I know the Sedna gold parts are quite minimal on the watch but any concerns for you? I mean it’s almost a paradoxical watch…bullet proof ceramic and soft precious metal! But the looks are undeniable.

Wearing it now…looked it over & not a scratch to be found. Here are some pics I just snapped. Kind of surprised too since I’ve banged the bez a few times and can’t find a dent or scratch on the Sedna gold portion. However omega does their Sedna gold, whether it’s the alloy or the brushed finishing, it works.
My submariner, on the other hand, looks like a tic-tac-to grid with all the scratches on it.

I had a ceramic GP World Timer. Dropped it and it cracked. New case was around £3k though, not two thirds of the watch price.

I have heard of a few DSOM omegas cracking too. It’s a consideration but not a deal breaker if you pardon the pun!

JS? Interested in who may have some discounts especially given the MSRP of some of these ceramic pieces (was interested in the Ceramic Ti Seamaster).

I have that exact Rado. Never seen anyone else with it! What a fantastic watch. Rose gold rotor and indices. And you're right about how it holds up. My most comfortable watch I own to wear. It's like wearing silk. Thanks for sharing!
