So what is on average the least expensive sports model at this point? I am thinking about both vintage and modern.

Would it be the black dial 16570?

OP’s have brushed bracelets. Oyster cases. Shock resistance and non-professional colors. They are basically Explorers. So yes they are sport models.

OPs are not Rolex sports models, though they're the sportier of the classic watch range.

Rolex do a Professional range and a Classic range. Their website is unambiguous.

Any Rolex can be a model associated with sports, so have a look around and see for yourself which models are the cheapest, both from an AD and on the secondary market.

Personally, I'd have a particular model or set of functions in mind. But if you just want to buy the badge and call it a Rolex Sport model, you can pretty much choose anything in the Rolex range, in your price range.

I would say it is since it was sold under the "Professional" line. So what does that make the OP that's the same watch but not sold under the "Professional" line?

Sorry - Rolex classifies watches as Professional or Classic. The OP is classic. Most people think of Professional as Sports.

Well this settles it. According to Rolex themselves every Oyster case is a sports model.

So they are all sports models

And I bet the Rolex marketing team are eating popcorn and chuckling while reading this thread

From the FAQ:

You can play sports with a Rolex on your wrist as the Rolex Oyster case provides the watch movement with optimal protection against shocks. All Rolex wristwatches are waterproof to depths of at least 100 metres for Oyster Perpetual models, and 50 metres for Cellini models.

Was it? What about the 14000?

I didn't think that the AK was listed as a Professional model until the current 40mm version, when it and the Millgauss received that designation (don't think the current Mil was originally a Pro line, either).

With the exception of those two, I thought that all Pro models had a flip-lock, which the old AK never did.

Flying (most) planes and working in a lab with high magnetic fields aren's "sports" either, but they are somewhat "extreme" professions, hence there are purpose-built "Professional" watches dedicated to them.

I don't think that "Professional" and "sports" can really be considered synonymous on the Rolex front anymore.
