From 40 to 4

I was talking with a old friend who used to frequent the forums, I was a little shocked when we talked SOTC and he said he had sold almost everything he now only had four watches left,I know he was at 40 pieces a few years back he seams to have fallen out of love with the Rolex hype . It’s got me thinking how many is too many ? .

Just read another post where a regular forum member Said everyone seams to own them . I can’t disagree it does seam that way ,I bought my first Rolex in 1993 and with about a 15% discount and it was or felt special £1775 for a sub date , it’s been serviced twice and Rolex have ruined it with the over polishing it’s now super skinny but it’s still here.

Padi sums it up nicely saying they have become nothing but money talk etc.I am loosing interest to be fair when I go in the AD for a chat there is nothing to see and it’s like everything is sold and you can’t have one . I know it isn’t really like that but it feels that way,All the BS about being allowed to buy one a year or register your interest I find it quiet draining to be fair , I enjoyed buying watches when I lost money on them albeit only small amounts with the Rolex but huge losses with Breitling etc. Now at present paying list but having to Wade through the nonsense I just don’t feel it anymore .I don’t really sell pieces mostly when I’m bored or there is something new I trade it back ,

I bought my first Grey watch last week and paying £8k over list was quite a experience but to get it was kind of refreshing , But it’s left me thinking am I now even deeper in to the Rolex game

I’m now really thinking has my old buddy actually got it right . He seams to have got away from this silly game

I'm sure I will always like Rolex watches and don't plan on selling any of mine, but I have definitely lost my passion for the brand and all the games. I visited an Omega and Breitling boutique yesterday, what a different experience...full cases and no entitled sales person.
