Stella dial - Diamonds or batons?

So, our hypothetical is this - You’ve decided to buy a Stella dial 1803/9 DD. You’ve decided you want a white gold 1803 with a “Kelly” green Stella dial. (Your name is Gates, or Walton, or Bezos, etc. - Neither price nor resale are a factor.)

For purposes of this inquiry, we’ll assume further (contra-factual) matters - I.e., we’ll take it as a given that the cases, hands, movements, bracelets, bezels, service history, etc. are all identical. Further, assume the condition of the two Stella dials is identical (also, both are black text “rail” dials).

Your only remaining decision is - Diamond dial or baton dial? Which *look* do you prefer?

Stella dial - Diamonds or batons?

Batons. In my opinion the diamonds distract from the feature, being the dial itself.

Batons. Very rarely do I think diamonds look good on the dial.

Diamonds…if you need to ostentatiously declare thy you’re wearing a gaudy Rolex when you enter the room.
Batons….if you’ve got nothing to prove and have taste.

I know for a fact my sister would prefer the diamonds over the batons. I on the other hand, prefer the batons. Diamonds might be forever but they would not last long on my wrist.

Personally batons by far....as I'm not a diamond geezer in any sense of the term.

I don't know. The diamonds look tempting. But if the sunlight hits the batons the contrast to the stella color dial might be unbeatable...

Batons for me, please.

I enjoy the stark simplicity, like a Japanese Zen rock garden.

For me, diamonds would be like hand-brake skidding a 911 into the garden. Beautifully raked gravel flying everywhere.

I've never seen one, but based on these photos I'd choose the diamond dial.

When it comes to that Stella dial, the choice between diamonds and batons is all about your vibe. Diamonds bring that flashy bling, while batons keep it sleek and classy.

I'm guessing you are under 40 sir and from UK - A diamond geezer is a UK term from the 80/90s, for a self assured bloke (or geezer) from the London area. It's typically used by the mildly nefarious or criminal fraternity for a sort of very showy but reliable bloke .... of which I am probably neither

I chose batons - I do have some sparkly bits, but prefer batons on a Stella, especially with a fluted bezel. I might prefer diamonds on an 1802 or other smooth bezel reference.

With my vote, batons lead diamonds 12-9 (with a few abstentions). I’m a little bit surprised, it seems that Rolex made most Stellas with diamonds.

(Obviously, I should’ve just made this a poll … )

The other factor, ( now in hindsight ) is diamonds create another spot for small hair line cracks to form. You picked the right one Clay.
