Anyone else prefer Steel Bezel Daytona’s?
I think they are beautiful and I’m craving one.

Just because you can put a ceramic bezel on a watch does not mean you should.
The old Daytona looks so much better. |

I can certainly see the appeal of both, but I prefer the upright orientation of the bezel units on the steel version much more than the inverted units on lower half of the ceramic.
For that reason alone I'd chose the steel bezeled version. |

I had a 16520 and someday I'll get another one... I least I hope I will. No desire for the new ceramic version but then again I haven't seen one in real life yet.

I don't think I'd swap my SS daytona with black dial for a ceramic of either color dial. But that doesn't mean I don't want a ceramic bezel version. I have a SS black dial daytona, and would like a SS white dial ceramic daytona. Different enough looking given while vs black. Although the white dial ceramic looks hard to read.

I have an 116520 and I love it. I've seen the 116500 in the flesh; I could have sold my 116520 for enough money to have bought the ceramic version at 'no cost' to me. I didn't because I prefer mine. If I could turn the clock back, I would make the same choice. To me, there's something, I dunno, clean about the SS bezel that makes it such a beautiful piece. With the ceramic bezel, I think it loses some of it's iconic look; obviously that is only my opinion and nothing more.
If I was Daytonaisti, I would have one of each for sure, but I would never (and I mean 'never') swap my 116520 for a ceramic bezel version.

I love 'em both, but lately have been obsessed with ceramic (anything -- on watches). My daily wear Daytona is a WG 116509 so it's got no ceramic bezel.

I do prefer the 116520. My AD keeps trying to get me to sell it back to him, so my guess is that many other people do, too.

That's not necessarily a correct assumption here. Your AD is trying to get their hands on your 116520 because the 116500's incredible market value is puling up the market value of the 116520 (since very few people who want SS Daytonas are able to get a 500, so they opt for the 520 as an alternative).

My white 116520 gets more wristime than my white 116500 but probably because the 116520 is broken in and the ‘500 is still in the category of only being worn carefully.
If I could only keep one it would be the 116520. I love that watch! |

Before the ceramic Daytona came out, 16520’s and 116520’s were priced in the same ballpark ($10-$12k), now finding a 16520 under $20k is getting hard. |

Both are great, but I’m really enjoying my white 116500. I flipped my 116520 and I’m happy with my decision. The contrast of the subdials and the worry free ceramic bezel are great. I just wish they got rid of the PCLs and polished case.

Interesting thread...I'd also have to agree....the non-C bezels (regardless PM or not) still look better to me than the modern C bezels.

The ceramic on the daytona to me makes it look way too sporty but then again they both are really amazing. I do love the new OF PM daytona models though ;D

Having owned both personally I prefer the ceramic bezel but I can’t blame anyone for feeling the opposite.

I own a white face 116520 and love the way it looks on tne wrist. So diverse. There was a time i thought i would trade it in in a ceramic daytona. But now i am not sure. Since i am “on a list” i do not anticipate having to make that decision for many years.

I’ll keep my 116520 white steel and hopefully can get a 116500 Black Ceramic. Hoping it will be early next year!

IMO the ceramic or vintage bakelite insert makes Daytonas wear bigger. Hence I agree also with favoring the steel bezel look instead. This is why the next choice between the white gold on oyster flex or bracelet will haunt my dreams when the time comes...both so exquisite in different ways...but ultimately the bracelet version without the ceramic bezel might pull ahead for me.

When I was new to watch collecting I told myself the only Rolex I would own is a white dial Zenith Daytona... Fast forward to now, I have still yet to own one and the prices seem to be getting more unobtainable for a full kit in great condition... I’m picking up a Ceramic white dial this weekend, but still want the Zenith...
