Icon17 5167 as dress watch

i think the 5167 meets many of the criteria

- thin
- light
- non ss bracelet, yet elegant sporty
- darker contrast colours that work with shoes/belt/cuffs
- under the radar / doesn't ooze look at me

overall a pleasing watch for the the quintessential gentleman who from time to time may happen to find himself in a setting where a dress watch is required

It's a great watch, but to me it's a sports watch, not a dress watch. Especially on a rubber strap. Having said that, it works just fine with a suit, and I always wear a vintage sports Rolex if I put a suit on. Just my opinion, of course. Either way it looks good, and there's no rule book!

BTW - are you 'the quintessential gentleman' ? Wish I was...

Mate... those are some fantastic pictures... well done! Absolutely stunning! Thank god I have this watch or else I would be off to the AD to try to get one!

I'll have to agree Anders but at the same time I believe the Nautilus could be just as good as a dress watch, Patek has quite a talent for making versatile timepieces.

I really like how the 5167 flys under the radar and how it transitions from sport to dress with ease.

For an everyday business watch it ticks a lot, if not all, of the boxes.

I don't know why people make such a big deal about the 5167 not being a dress watch. I agree that it may not be suitable with morning dress or a dinner jacket, but it is great with a suit. Long sleeves keep your watch covered anyway, and unless somebody is very close to you they don't realize it has a rubber band. The face is beautiful and classy. And while I don't condone it, there are lots of people who wear digital watches with their suits. Looks like crap. But a 5167 doesn't look like a cheap digital watch.

So lets give the 5167 a little more respect.

It's definitely a sports watch but not bad as a dress watch if its your only watch. Also good if you want to travel with only one watch (though the 5164 is better across time zones).

Thierry Stern

I was at a dinner where Thierry Stern wore one with a simple charcoal gray suit, white shirt with French Cuffs with Patek cufflinks, and a wine colored tie. If the boss can do it, then the rest of us can.

The 5167 is very versatile but I think this watch suit casual/smart wear better as the large Arabic hour marker make this watch much more sporty than the 5711 or RO Jumbo. I think this watch looks good even when one wearing his swimming trunk!

I've seen Panerais Submersibles being used as dress watches so I guess this isn't really much of a stretch although wouldn't be my choice.

Had my 5167 for 4 weeks now, worn 4 times has 3 scratches/marks. Any advice on 'ding' prevention? I have tried to be very careful, but it's not working.

Great pix Puffs.

I think a black leather strap would look better.

best prevention is putting it in your drawer/safe

if you wear shirts with cufflinks it is destined to get effed up

also best to put it on AFTER you've put shirt, suit jacket and any coat on as the fabric, buttons etc can actually scratch it

mine has been a frequent wearer for over a year and it has just a few hairlines as i take care when wearing it

As a dress or casual watch, the 5167 gets my vote.

Great PICs Puffy.

I'm thinking that watch was chosen by Soros as his humble watch.

Anders, great pictures as always. The Aquanaut looks great with your business attire. I'm wearing mine to business conference next week - with suit or shirt / jacket combo. I think it works well for such occasion.

thanks guys

it really works with any suit/shirt combo.

what completes the look is if you wear a black belt and black shoes

dark cuffs make it look even sweeter without going OTT

you're right carl...

the 5711's bezel and case can look black/white at angle so works perfectly with a dark suit and white tie...
