What are the odds??
I purchased a 1530 a year and a half ago from a reputable dealer from Miami. A friend just bought another 1530 recently from a different dealer from the other coast. Our serial numbers are 1 number apart. 4158XXX. This seems unfathomable to me and I would love to hear the groups thoughts, comments and theories
Thank you kindly |

It would bother me more if the numbers were the same.

They and the 1630 are by all accounts very low production.
The short production would suggest batches with succeeding numbering. The small numbers .are would from batches with those numbers. ... so there is more probability to find two numbers in succession out of say 500 rather than 50k or 100k for a year. |

The odds are small but not zero. I made a thread about it: https://omegaforums.net/threads/seri...umbers.147786/ But from the same dealer is super rare.

It's not as surprising as you might think.
The reason is that blocks of numbers are sometimes allocated to case production for certain models, esp unusual/rare pieces. Haywood Milton has shared a few of his records on this regarding blocks of serial numbers in past btw ( for some models useful to identify fake cases if not in small serial no. run of course). To illustrate I have two 1655 that are two numbers apart and two 1016 that are 4 numbers apart ....and I don't have many of each.

With the numbers so close together it does sound a little freaky
