5146 underrated?

Hi- does anyone else think the 5146 is super underrated? I love the watch- its a good size (39mm) and not too complicated yet so classic Patek. Just curious if I'm missing something!

It always been underrated, but yeah hits a lot of boxes , complications, right size , classic patek look for a good price. Demand for the watch is low so yeah is watch that u know from the get go that is a lost, money wise .

Any idea why resale value is so poor?

Lovely watch. I loved my old 5035.

There are too many versions in too many metals, etc. Patek invented the AC and then overproduced to the point of absurdity.

I'm starting to appreciate it more, the more I wear it... It's very understated... not as noticeable as a Nautilus or a blingly Rolex... Prices will jump up if someone famous is filmed wearing one....it is also discontinued...which may make it more popular in time...

There goes... In my eyes the dial design of 5146 is a mess and quite ugly. I'd much rather pay up for a 3940 and I also prefer most simple Calatravas to any 5146 and its AC predecessors.

If it didn't have the Day/Month/Moonphase it would be a nice watch. I like the Date window at 6 and the Power Reserve. Center seconds hand is a plus.

I agree, the subdials are too close together, and overall it doesn't work for me either

I absolutely love the 5146g, classic patek, easy to read, great size. I suspect it'll rise in value now that it is discontinued. No regrets at all.

It is a true classic watch and has useful complication one can use daily.

The 5146 was produced for ~15 years. If you purchased the watch when it was first introduced, you would have realized a very nice price appreciation. The price of this watch increased quite a bit over the 15 year production time span.

great reference and imho one of the best ac's they have ever made. from casual to dress it has great range. case design is exquisite and at 39mm it rides very well. can not go wrong.

Superb watch. My favourite is the J with grey dial!

Super versatile. Easy to wear. Good modern size -- not too small, yet not obtrusively large. Classic PP all the way. The somewhat too-close subdials are really the only complaint.

I am quite fond of mine.

But I think Patek made a lot of them...

We all know many watch collectors are only interested in what’s “hot” or unavailable.

Mine says hi!

5146G with the slate dial is so versatile it can be dressy or casual… here I was riding a bike with it.

I don' think the 5146 is exceptional in any one way – but it's solid all the way around, which makes it a nice package all things considered. Good size, nice assortment of complications, practical, easy to wear daily for all occasions, works well casual, etc.

My only objection is that to me, it looks upside down: personally, I'm not a fan of the Patek logo on the bottom rather than the top, always rubbed me the wrong way. But that's just an aethetic preference, to each their own.

Most likely pulling the trigger for the 5146J with slate dial.

Would be my first Patek.

Probably not the target demographic of these kind if watches (millenial) but Since I tried it I have not stopped thinking about it. Tomorrow will most likely be the day!

Will get it brand new, probably one of the last ones.

Looking for some advice:

Other than the dark brown strap, what other color would you suggest going for?

Not interested in black or light brown.

AD suggests grey to match the dial…but not convinced.

Any pics with different colors?

Go for the 5172 blue nubuck strap with cream stitching.. Fits perfectly, looks great

I think the biggest "dislike" about the watch is the "oversized/enlarged" features such as the text, numerals, sub-dials, etc as well as the numerals being a bit plain.

I like the watch overall, but I don't like the date window in comparison to the other elements of the watch. On the numerals I wish they could've used a different font.
