“The Supercase was a mistake!”

“The Supercase was a mistake,” claims C&C.

Definitive Submariner guide from Crown & Caliber.

Great resource. Do you agree?

Supercase is the BEST case. Fit me so well and I absolutely love the fat lugs.

The new one to be honest is not much different actually. When I tried on both it feels almost the same to me. LOL

The lugs don't bother me as much as the 1980s-style shoulder-pad crown guards, which sadly have carried over.

You can like the Supercase lugs, but that don't make 'em pretty

The Oyster case was never meant to have such fat lugs. They had the design right back in the '50s and I'm glad for Rolex to see the error in their ways. They may have sold a ton but, aesthetically speaking, the Supercase was a miss.

I couldn't agree more. The new Sub looks too feminine with the slimmer lugs.

I think the supercase works very nicely but especially for watches with colored bezels like the LVc

Bigger does not always mean better.

Look at the new BMW grills.
Big and ugly, specially with the license plate.

The irony on 116xxx lugs is great. People hate the fat lugs, it’s the worst, Rolex made a mistake, etc... Unless it is on the LV or gmt master, then it’s cool. Forum opinions are very inconsistent. Seems like people just follow the crowd nowadays.

I for one think 126xxx has subtle changes but are much more refined. They do look great. I do own a 116610ln and I am happy with it. Though if I had the opportunity I would swap. Also, I’d take a 126610lv over hulk all day.

I love the Supercase...was unique and bold...the new Submariner is lovely, but it looks a bit plain now.

I agree 100% on this.

I have both 11 and 12 series, I love both of them and I don't feel any different on my wrist.

It did take time for Rolex to “evolve” to different proportions.... but it’s evident they have been planning this since 2016 — when they were designing the current SD43 for introduction in 2017.

I own an 116610LN and love the look of the supercase. I'm often confused when members talk about how the sub is a great tool watch, so solid, rugged, and tough, yet they want it to have "slim" lugs and a more "elegant" case shap. I appreciate the style of the 5-digit subs, but I also appreciate the bold risk Rolex took with the supercase. I respect people's opinions, but I get a little tired when people bash the supercase, especially when they haven't tried one on. Also, I could be wrong, but I believe the absolute outside to outside lug width in the new 12xxxx is similar to the 11xxxx, but because of the increase in bracelet width from 20 to 21mm, there is an optical illusion that the lugs are slimmer.

Rolex improved things in my opinion. The supercase 2000's design was a bit gaudy and silly. They jumped the shark with the Hulk.

By slimming the case, lugs, crown guards and upsizing the bracelet to 21mm they really balanced things out and made it more wearable and attractive. It doesn't just look like a big watch now.

Not a fan of the supercase. The chamfers on the earlier cases were a nice touch that never should have disappeared.

We're talking pure aesthetics of 1-2mm on the lugs which to me is de minimis non curat lex.

They changed quite a bit actually:

Case width increase, case thickness decrease, crown guard decrease, lug width decrease, bracelet increase
