Shake it!

Here's a trick for you, guys and gals, if your Rolex is losing a couple of secs a day.

It is a trick that I have used for many, many years.

Rolex watches would not be harmed by a little shaking. The KIF shock protection system is quite effective. A hard blow to the watch or a fall is a different matter!

Actually, I make some FAST movements with my arm (horizontally back and forth, quite fast, my underarm being horizontally to my chest). It does look silly, so do it privately!
But it WORKS!

That way I can actually make my Rolex gain 1 sec. if I discover that it has lost 1 sec by checking with a radio-controlled watch. I do this a couple of times per day and keep my watch spot on that way.

I asked my watch maker at my AD if I could damage ANYTHING in my watch by shaking it, and he said "No, there is no risk of damaging anything".

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I KNEW you tossers would think like that!

Anyway, the trick works if you have a watch going slow.

Hey Bo,
It works! Tried it this morning, then at lunch, then in the afternoon, and so on..............the only problem is I feel like having a smoke afterword.

Actually I used this on my Tudor and it does work.

Yeah, and better not get caught doing that motion at work or you risk getting sacked!

Let's give it this name, since it is not safe for work:

"The NSFW Positional Correction Procedure"

Bo,

I remember a post some time back indicating that new watches sometimes run slow. After about a month of "breaking in" they should run faster. Has this been your experience?

Mine loses one second per day on a consistant basis.

I tried the "horizontal arm shake/air guitar solo" in public and was almost arrested by an undercover policewoman........She thought I was motioning for something else, and didn't really believe me when I told her that I was simply adjusting my watch speed....I can't go within a 1/4 mile of that area in the city anymore...Yikes.....gha

That is a VERTICAL motion that you show, Jocke, NOT a horizontal and with your arm in chest height.

Guys this is no joke! This really works. My watch has been loosing ~3 secs / day; not enough to have regulated, but enough to mean I need to adjust the time every couple of weeks. Now I can just give it a little shake each morning and be sure that I am keeping dead-on accurate time :-)

It simply works pretty much instantly! You give it a good shake like described, and monitor the second's hand afterwards, comparing it to a radio-controlled clock (or other ultra precise time source like accurist123.com).

I have talked with my AD watch maker about it. It does NOT harm the watch since Rolex has a very efficient KIF shock protection system, but what happens is that you effect the amplitude of the movement. About 2-3 hours later, the movement settles down again, but a repetition of the "trick" makes it go precise compared to another time source once again.

i first benchmarked my GMT's timekeeping with time.gov and then gave it a good shake (as described) and my watch was all of a sudden 1 second faster than it had been a minute before. I did it again, only longer, and this time it was ~3 seconds faster than my original benchmark.
