The first edition of the YachtMaster will always been the nicest one>>>
in my opinon. The hard blasted platinum surface at the dial with the fat red fonts is hard to beat. Then a red datewheel doesn't make things worse.

The platinum dialed 116622 only lasted a few years before the rhodium/slate and blue dials were the sole choice. It did not have the red date wheel, it was black. They are relatively rare.

100% agreed. I never understood why they changed it.
Nice pic. I'm pretty sure Jocke is referencing the first generation of the platinum dial YMs, which had a coarser (more beautiful) finishing. |

Beautiful. I prefer the following 116622 with a slightly less coarse dial finish, but stunning nonetheless. Thanks for the top picture, as always Jocke.

Great photo.
Sold my YM. First Rolex I ever sold, and one of the first I ever bought. Whilst your photo captures it in the perfect light showing it off beautifully, mine just didn’t get the wrist time it deserved, so it had to go. |

I agree. That dial looks absolutely beautiful in sunlight. Really sparkled. They changed the texture of the dial with later version. Still beautiful, but not quite as beautiful as the early ones!

I agree the first one was best.. however you have the 2nd one there OP! The first Yachts were in Submariner cases which were 10x better imo..

I agree Jocke plus the dial is pure 950 pt back then as you pointed out years ago.

Honestly I didn’t care for them when first released, however they have grown on me a lot over the years. I really like them now. Beautiful watch!
