I have a question guys...
For those who love the Daytona. Would you still love the Daytona if it was as easy to get as getting a glass of water in the kitchen? I would still like the watch, however, the fact that it is so difficult to get it makes me love the watch even more. I think its a human nature, we seem to love more the things that is so hard to get.

I would still want one but the difficulty to obtain adds to the mastic.

I think the rose gold with the meteorite dial ROCKS!!!!
The stainless steel is only a cult watch due to its limited yearly production. SS does hold up much better than gold or platinum when it comes to scratches. The Daytona II with its larger 41m case and date will be one awesome watch i cant wait to get!!!

This is precisely the issue with the SS model only. If there were something inherently special about the watch, the TT and gold models wouldn't be sitting in display cases globally.
Yes, I know they cost more, but plenty of people could still afford to clean out the ADs. Everyone wants what everyone can't have. Human nature. I have to confess to giving in to the temptation of buying one at MRSP. Name literally drawn from a hat from those of a half dozen big buyers. It was almost like I had to buy it. Wore it for six months, it bored me and I sold it. Happy to have it out of my system. |

Thanks. I've seen the rose gold Daytona and know it's an Basel '08 release but never seen it with that dial. I hope it has a rose gold cast too. Thinking the silver "space dial" might look strange with the rose case, but we'll see.

Surely I love the Daytona, however, if the SS Daytona would not have been the "most sought after Rolex" and the hype would not have been there, I would have only stick with the 18K/SS Daytonas as they are far more stunning n coms with so many beautiful Dial options
SS Daytonas are in my collection due to there "must have" status in a Rolex collection, and may be that's why firstly I purchased the TT Daytona and still love it more that the SS

IMO I would have to say no. And probably wouldn't consider buying it. As I dolike to have a watch with the date showing.
Though that hasn't stopped me from placing my name down on the waiting list! Now how shallow and fickle is that...........answers on a post card please!

How about a GMT hand and date? A must for IFR. Forget the small cronos when flying...

There is just something magic about wearing a Daytona!
Easy to dismiss a pretty girl, if she won't date you. |

I still prefer watches with a date window. I have a couple of watches without the date window and my friend sitting next to me in my car found it strange that I would ask what the date was when I was wearing a high end Swiss watch. By the way, I needed to know the date in order to fill out my parking ticket, which is a daily affair. He read the date from his Japanese watch and showed be a smile that I could not forget. From then on, I only wear them during the weekends when parking is free and there is no need to know the date. Now, I am wondering whether the Daytona is a watch for me, although it looks very impressive?

I also agree the date window would be nice but most days I'm around computer and date is just easy to find and not as important as it used to be.

JJ, they don't have to be stationary! You can make it run 24hr a day as well

Though I can get along w/o a date, I'm happier with one. I like the history of the Speedy pro, but the lack of a date keeps me from absolutely loving it.
Is a Daytona II really in the works? That would be nice, but at the rate prices are escalating it would likely have an MSRP of $12k. The BA Chrono anniversary 1957 fills the void, for me, created by no Daytona and is a pretty handsome watch, also. The fact that the "1957" matches our wedding date doesn't hurt, either. |

In the last year or so I've tried on both the black and white dial SS Daytonas at my AD, and neither did anything for me.

For me, it's almost as easy to get as getting a glass of water in the kitchen.
Although, I can't live without the date window either. |

personally, I would "rather" have the WG - I love the Red Hands and the Arabic Numbers on Silver (the black is awesome as well). I wish the ss had these qualities. For me, it's not about the WG - I just really like the beauty of the red hands along with the Arabic Numbers.... I think that it is a stunning watch. Those are regularly available just over $30k - Hard to justify when I love having so many other pieces also. Due to cost, I must wait patiently for the AD to call with the SS.

That is a beautiful watch. The 1957 to remind you of your wedding date is pretty special.... Love the look of the watch too!
