The 'Deep Seas' For Sale in abundance - why??

How come - I'd like to know just what some of the sellers are paying for them as they're on the block but not at not the huge premium over RRP as expected.

What gives - what's the reason for these near BNIB pieces being offered at $10k (or less in some cases)/

Just curious.....or am I tempted

Judging from some of the photo's I've seen with the watch on someones wrist, it looks to me like this watch is really awkward to wear and probably, very uncomfortable.

I also believe a lot of people miss-judged the watch as being in limited release like the SS Daytona. It looks like it's not as exclusive as all these sellers thought.

I'll bet my bottom dollar that if in the next Basel show in April, Rolex updates the Submariner, the SDDS will be forgotten completely and there will be ample supply of them on the market at a good discount.

The proof is in the pudding as they say.....a hideous hubcap that resembles a watch only in function best describes the reason they are not selling.

Also, Rolex is going to the well a little too often, even for us WIS'. To buy a GMTII-C, then a Milgauss, and then a GV all in the last year is almost to the point of saturation.

Now a new version Sub with ceramic dial might pique my interest. Or the new DD!!!!

My 300th post!!!!! The dude abides!!!

I would like to see a retro fit bezel that is ceramic for the Sea dweller. These painted ones do not last long

I would like that as well. I bet that will need to have the entire bezel ring changed as well to accomodate the thicker bezel insert.

apparently they mis-judged rolex supply.my contact that works there said they intentionally released more just so a situation like what happened with the other limited releases' didnt happen again.
it worked!!

Still I think the size and thickness makes some Rolex enthusiast hesitate and thus reducing the demand for it.

my speculation is that the new deepsea will be one of the hardest watches to move for ADs shortly. 15-20% off MSRP on deepsea will be normal soon

I think the market for the SDDS is simply smaller. Some of us cannot carry a 43mm watch. It might entice those who avoided buying a Rolex because they wanted to buy some bigger. Despite the popularity of Panerai, Uboat and other large watches... I think the bulk of the market is still in the 36~40mm size.

The other thing... well a 44mm watch on a rubber or leather strap wears smaller than a 43mm on a bracelet (bracelet makes the watch wider). The SDDS is probably just too big for most of the market.

hi guys

alot of people who are first on the list are just flippers they always buy the new releases and sell them for a profit. just they way of the world. i wonder how long it will be before the second batch is released this will set the grey market price. also economic times are not allowing people to pay way over list price for a watch, you can see this with the milgauss GV which is a low volume production watch, and the prices are dropping like a stone!
just MHO

best regards sean

Only the guys with more money than sense get a SDDS to those fancy prices.

It´s like Iphone, just wait a few months and it´s like getting oranges at the store.

It´s not so smart to be first.

I confess, I did write a little letter to Rolex complaining about the limited numbers of the Milgauss GV and the effects thereof on the price.................so I guess the listened and this is the result with the DSSD.

I kid you not. but who knows

The DSSD is a great watch. But, as the demand is not as high as some of the other sports models and sue to the huge supply going forward, we can expect to pay less than MSRP in a year's time.

What may I ask are you doing to/with your bezel? I have worn my SD in every type of condition and the bezel insert is fine. I also have inserts on much older pieces that look great as well. Personally, the greyish hue on the ceramic bezel is a bit bothersome and I prefer the option of being able to switch inserts easily, the ceramic inserts have to be replaced by Rolex at this point.

Quite simply, there are much better options out there for a dive watch when you are spending $9600 with tax....on any given day, you could pick up a pre-owned 16610 & 16600 for less than the above number. At that point, you would have argueably two of the most robust & iconic dive watches made. As I have said before, I am waiting to pick one of these up cheap, there will be plenty soon IMO.

Be realistic - I wouldn't buy a tool watch that dive deeper than a blue whale Deepest I ever dive was knee high water off of Florida beaches

This time last year the Milgauss were selling in the $7K...now $5K.

If anyone is actually considering buying one of these, DON'T DO IT YET!

The prices are dropping faster than a "Bonanza full of doctors".

I have been monitoring sales activities on all of the major forums, an the flippers are getting worried...

Tphan,

I have always been a little confused by everyone being so concerned about how deep his or her watch in waterproof too.

I have stated in previous posts, the only way I’ll ever make it to the depth my Sea-Dweller is rated at (4,000 Ft.), is if someone ties concrete blocks to my ankles and tosses me overboard in the gulfstream. Hopefully it will never happen, but if it were to, I could careless what watch I had on my arm!

I have grown up in south Florida, and spent all my life fishing; diving, enjoying water sport activities from central Florida to Key West, and can honestly say I have NEVER been diving deeper than 60-feet.

Matt

My deepest dive was 110 feet off of Guam. I think I didn't have a watch on.
