1016 Explorer + Aquastar Thermo as a Dive Watch

Recently I was going through my original 1967 1016 Explorer box and came across this Aquastar watch band thermometer. It reminded me that back in the late ’60s and early 70s I used the combination as my occasional dive watch.

I’ve only seen one other here on TRF and thought I’d post it as it may bring back similar memories.

Back then my Explorer really was my everyday, every adventure watch.

Very cool, the aquastar thermometer pops up on eBay from time to time. Usually in Celsius though. I think the Fahrenheit is less common

Unexpected and delightful "mod" to your 1016. I think it's pretty neat that you were swimming with that instead of a Sub (or some other "dive" watch). A testitment to the Rolex Oystercase.

I couldn't afford a Sub back then. I was a beginner scuba diver and dove in quarries and lakes so maybe 30-40' max depth.. I never had a problem with it and it was my daily for a many years.

He wanted to see if they could grow plants in the habitat. The plants all died, and even though I have a strong background in plant physiology - it wasn't until recently that I realized why they failed to survive. The habitat had a mixed gases atmosphere with no CO2. No CO2, no photosynthesis- plants die.
