My collection - consolidate/keep/sell/do nothing?
Hi all
Just thought I would share my Rolex collection and ask for your thoughts. Sorry for the quality, hard to reduce the size and keep the sharpness. I know ultimately it'll be down to me but it is always interesting to hear other opinions.... Each one of these watches have a little story in their own way so any would be hard to sell - but the thought does cross my mind. The obvious trade would be consolidate a couple of the SS pieces and get a PM Rolex. Previously only SS interested me, but now in my later 30s, I am starting to appreciate PM more and more! Each were purchased from two different ADs. - 36mm 16234 DJ was my first Rolex, it will never go! - Used to have BLNR which I sold during the COVID peak - 126610 LV is my wedding year, so don't want to shift this one - 116500 LN white Daytona was my grail for SO many years, unlikely to sell this. The Daytonas only really come out on special occasions/weekends. - I daily between the 126710 BLRO GMT (more comfortable) and 50th Anniversary 126600 Sea Dweller What would you do? Any thoughts? |

I’d sell the SD before the BLRO. And I’d wear the Daytonas more often. My collection is similar but dwindled down to a Land Air Sea. Daytona GMT and Sub is the perfect trio.

You need some gold. Either two tone or solid.

Possibly sell the Sea Dweller and the black dial Daytona and buy a Day-Date or an Oysterflex Daytona.

If anything was to be sold or consolidated I'd look to move one of the Daytonas and the SD.

Fantastic collection! The only one I would ever seriously consider moving on is the SD… the white Daytona is a great contrast/ alternative to your darker dials so I definitely would keep that…. I guess if anything else the black Daytona might be worth considering selling…. Although I can’t imagine how it would feel to let a Daytona go!…. Actually, on second thought, keep them all!!
Great collection, thanks for sharing! |

What would I do? Well, I wouldn’t sell anything… you already sold your BLNR (which I would have kept over several of those). So my advice is probably worth the ink used to write it.

Sell the SD… if it was good enough to stay in your collection you would have placed in a cushion lol.

Nice collection. I’d sell black dial Daytona and replace it with some PM. DD, 116619, TT DJ or TT/WG Daytona. I wouldn’t sell SD, a plain black bezel Rolex diver is mandatory for me in any collection.

Just keep what you have and enjoy. When the time is right the path will be clear.

Dump the SD and one of the Daytonas. Pick something up in PM. Something like a DD or even an omega moonshine. If you got the moonshine used you could even have money left over for something else.

If you wear the SD and BLRO daily, dont sell those. If the LV and Datejust can't go for sentimental reasons those aren't selling.
So either start wearing the Daytonas or sell them. They will get you the most money, and if not wearing them, sell. Get something in gold on leather. And unless you only want rolex in your collection, branch out.

I would probably sell a Daytona and get a Day-Date. A YM42 would be interesting as well if the SD43 were to leave the collection.

My recommendation after facing a similar recent question about my own collection is to intentionally wear each and every watch for several days and pay attention to what gives you the most joy and which ones are just kind of ok. That could be a way to narrow down what to keep.
If this was my collection, I would kick one Daytona to the curb due to redundancy, and I'd probably punt the SD as well, particularly if you want to keep the Sub LV. |

I'd keep the LV, Pepsi, white Daytona. Everything else would be expendable.

I like your collection. I would probably daily the BLRO + LV instead of of the BLRO + SD. I dont think the SD adds anything to the collection. I would probably just sell the SD and leave the rest of the collection alone.

May I ask are all of your collection came from ADs? If so, that is really amazing since there are lots of hard to get models in your collection. I will keep everything there haha because they are all very nice. Thank you for sharing!

Since the OP like(s/d) the look of SS, maybe a WG DD36 would be the right move. The blue ombre/diamond dials are attractive.

You have a great steel base so I’d get a PM next.
I went OF Daytona as it’s a good entry to PM. You have a couple of Daytona already so what about YM 40/42 on OF? If I was selling anything it would be the DJ.

Imho... and have been an enthusiast for decades....
Only add... you'll thank me later for saying this now. But, you know, perhaps you can always learn the 'lesson' of re-buying for more at something you sell today. Been there, done that, just trying to help. jmho ymmv PS: Only add. :)
