Got a call today...

Put my name down at a busy NYC AD for a DJ 41, fluted, oyster with green or slate dial on Jan 18th.

Got the call for a DJ 41, fluted, oyster with a black dial this morning.

As i have a sub with a black dial, i turned it down.

Sharing to let you guys know that the tide seems to be turning. Rolex are no longer near impossible to get out of AD's anymore.

It’s nice to get a call, even if it’s for the wrong reference combo

I feel that when they call you and offer a reference you didn’t ask for, they need the cash.

Nice gesture on their part, thinking the black dial might have worked for you. Hopefully one you want turns up soon.

I can’t imagine any New York Rolex AD needing the cash and I’ve been to them all. My guess is they don’t currently have anyone that’s asked for that particular configuration so the SA’s are running through their recent contacts as a courtesy. If they don’t find a taker they’ll put it in the case and it will be gone within hours.
I’ve known my SA long enough that I never get those random offers. I only ask for one thing at a time and don’t get a call until he has it.

You’re probably right. I don’t ever get those calls either, unless I count being offered the Wimbledon, while standing in the store. I was not technically on the list, but they knew I had tried the exact configuration on, previously, and had really liked it.

I received two calls over the past six months - exactly what I wanted:

- DJ41 fluted oyster, blue dial for me
- two tone explorer 36 for the Mrs.

Definitely feels like things are loosening up.

Now I am just waiting for my two tone - GRNR! Soon I hope :)

She absolutely loves it. I got the call on that one the week after Christmas. Doh! Couldn't say no. LOL

But I bet if someone had walked in that day and asked for that exact black dial configuration, they would give them the runaround about how supply is limited at the moment and blah blah blah, in hopes of pivoting the sale to higher margin jewelry and milking them for a year or two while dangling the carrot of said Rolex.

Yes, nothing else. Though that could be a tactic to either try and get me to take this watch or keep the other watches for those who have their name down for them.

Only buy what you like but good to see you getting offered one even if it wasn’t quite right

Although the OP hasn’t specifically said which one, NYC city Rolex dealers are pretty unique. AFAIK there are only two outlets that are jewelry stores, 7 that are watch only stores. All of them except one have more than a single location.
Similar to Las Vegas, lots of dealers relatively close to each other.

Nice to get calls and be offered watches. Buy what you like be let your AD/SA know you are very appreciative of them thinking of you.

This is spot on with NYC AD games…..

Very sad scenario but likely actually very true

DJ and OP were the entry level watches to get a sports watch, just getting back to that

That's awesome news! It seems like the availability of Rolex watches is improving. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It's great to hear that getting a Rolex from an AD is becoming more possible. Enjoy your Sub with the black dial!
