AP House Allocation in Hong Kong

Hi everyone!!

Any tips on how to improve my odds with AP in Hong Kong from folks in this part of the world? Visited the AP house here a few times now - beautiful location! Most interested in 15510ST in white, absolutely stunning watch.

Keen to connect with watch lovers out here in Asia too

I was there 2 days ago. Its slim to none and slim just left town. With the influx of mainlanders just tossing their wealth around and buying up anything and everything luxurious, there's nothing available.

In today's time, Asian ADs are *super* difficult to get your foot in the door unless

1. You were already an established customer
or
2. You have some pretty serious wealth to toss around
or
3. Know somebody (celebrity or political)

There's just too many players and not enough inventory. If you're recently immigrated to said country and don't speak the local dialect, it's even harder (flat out impossible in some countries). And absolutely forget about it if you're a tourist.

If 1,2 or 3 don't apply to you and you're seeking a RO41 as a first piece, I'd pretty much say that's never happening and they're simply being nice with your visits. A lot of people take politeness as having a 'chance' at allocation, but it's just the norm in some parts of the world. Whereas in the US there might be some snooty SA, it isn't the case in places like HK, BKK, etc (in my experience).

Good luck!

Friend of mine in London (who travels to Hong Kong ever so often) tried to get "established" with AP in Hong Kong. They kindly told him to focus on London (and not Hong Kong).

Don't quote me on this but I heard from friends in Hong Kong that IFC loves allocating to Doctors / Lawyers (not sure why).

AP House Central said that if I bought a code in Jan-23, I'd be a very happy man in Dec-23 (I was looking for a 15550st).

Ended up getting allocated a 15510st after 2 years of waiting from London AP House.

Go to any BT (There is no more AD in HK), leave your business card and be patient... heard that they did allocate 15510ST 50th anniversary to newbie last year.

More precise, they just luv professionals and people with a polished business card... buying a code doesnt guarantee you will be allocated with a RO/ROO in HK, some people i know dun even been offered the chance to buy a code... my sliver dial 15510ST 50th arrived 1 month after my request.

Thanks man, super helpful - was your 15510ST the first watch you bought from an AP boutique?

Be yourself... I'm far from a VIP nor wealthy Mainlander and AP HK is treating me very well. I'm not a doctor, banker, or lawyer, although I do work in healthcare (IVF, fertility). Might have helped, who knows.

Should one try to contact multiple boutiques and different SAs? Does that increase the chances for allocation?

Au contraire - they all share the same CRM, and can see that you are trying to game the system.

Does having a recommender help to improve your chances?

Yes, recommendations by good clients appear to have been helpful for several forum members.

I was at BT in Harbour City few days ago, really nice and friendly SA. Requested for a black dial 15510st. Wonder what are the odds of actually getting the call at all?

Hope that someone with experience would share :)

I would say your line of work, and your knowledge/passion of watches and their brand should play a part in their assessment with HQ.

I was lucky enough to get a couple of RO allocations very shortly, might be due to my connection with doctors across the region.

My experience with AP SA has been a delight, very professional and down to earth.

I would not suggest going to multiple SA. They will refer you back to your initial SA unless you are using different contact numbers. Have to be patient when going down the boutique route, drop by APH from time to time and try on some new watches, and remind your SA you are still interested in certain pieces.

I haven't put in any request for a while now as I don't have any pieces that I love except for the skeleton (which I won't be able to get unless build up my spending there).

Goodluck with your journey - I guess part of the game is the hunt and the wait to get something you love and enjoy.

“See that son? If you study hard and go to law school then you too could have the chance one day to buy an AP at retail.”
