36mm RO - Wrist Size

Hi Team -

Long-time lurker on the AP wing of TRF, first-time poster.

I'll cut to the chase... Considering a 36mm RO, either a 14790, 25730, or the 15189 (the latter being the Pictet & Cie limited edition on a leather strap). I have a 6.75" wrist. Is a 36mm RO going to be too small or just right?

For reference, my sweet spot in Rolex is anything between 36mm (my OP 116000) or 40mm (my GMTII 16710), but have zero experience in the AP world.

Feedback, pictures, and random banter is welcome and appreciated!

My opinion is skip all of those references and get a 15450 at 37mm. Much better watch for the money and they're trading very close to the same price right now. My personal choice was the 15300 at 39mm which can be had under $30,000 nowadays

For your wrist size, I think 36 or 37mm is going to feel small. I think 39mm 15300 would be perfect.

I have a 14700 with thinner bezel but slightly larger dial than a 14790. The watch wears pretty large despite a modest 36mm case size. I’d say it wears almost as big as a Rolex Daytona.

I have 6.6” wrist, I wear AP from 36 mm to 41 mm (36, 37, 39 & 41 mm) and love them all.

The size will be perfectly fine for you. Royal Oaks wear larger than their size might suggest because of the integrated bracelet and squarish design.

My wrist size is 7.1" and the 37mm size is perfect for me. Like jgottsman11 says, maybe better go for a 37mm 15450. Prices are similar (depending on where you shop, Japan especially) and the older refs are a minefield (no box/papers, different dial types, too polished, etc).

another vote for the 15450. go for a modern reference, they're much more sturdy and have way better clasps. the clasps on vintage APs sit really awkwardly on the wrist and for the most part these watches will be beat down. you just get a lot more value with a 15450 and it will have a much sharper and shinier bracelet

The 14790 is alot less "jewelry" like to me.
Feels alot less flashy, sits very flush and is absolutely gorgeous on the wrist, especially if you are a fan of vintage watches, the early index on those are very beautiful with the petite tappeserie.

With a modern, I'd rather a 15550 over a 15450. I like very much the small enhances made to the bracelet tapper as well as a slimmer size.

Both beautiful, good luck on the hunt and congrats in advance.

Definitely choose the 15450 over the 15550

The new taper on the 15550 makes it appear FAR smaller than its predecessor, which I don't think is what you're after

Now you have me looking at the 15450. Kinda digging the white/silver dial version.

Appreciate the feedback. Tried a 39mm on a recent trip to NYC and while it technically fit, it looked a little larger on the wrist than I usually prefer.

This has been my sense of things on the smaller ROs - wearing larger than their nominal size would suggest.

Another vote for the 15450... you guys might have me shifting gears over here.

More 15450 recommendations...

15300 is the way to go! I’m not a fan of the bracelet taper on the 15450

attached a pic of my 14790. Prefer its proportions to the 15450s. My wrist is a bit smaller at 6.5“.

Someone listing a Grey dial 37mm. 45 maybe a bit steep imo!

I fully agree - also have 6.5" and I find the 14790 perfect! What a shot

My first RO was a 4100st which is almost 36mm. Looked really classy but I found it too small and delicate for my liking. My wrist is about 7in

I don't agree, owning both. The 15550 is thinner, lugs flare different. Have to say the 15550 wears nicer imho.
