We most certainly do not myself 79 and I dont need any of these childlike nicknames for the proper names or references of Rolex watches.

All information supplied from my own 79 year old brain power, without the aid of loupes, nicknames, timegraphers, alignment points, protective film, special cleaning cloths, phone apps, and the rest of todays Rolex watch toys.

Agree Peter…how about a sticky naming the numbskulls creating these monikers?

Well said Padi. I agree. Enough of the silly manufactured names. Patek and AP owners never ridicule their watches with names of comic book hero’s. IMO only the Pepsi, PND, and President are legitimate casual names for Rolex iconic pieces that occurred over time and with legitimate reference.

This is an interesting post and I never thought of it before…

What does this say about the owners of these different brands?

I think many first time Rolex owners these days are primarily flexers. They care only about the brand status and nothing about horology. It’s about flashing your Rolex and posting pics on IG. Unfortunately, in the last decade or so Rolex has attracted lots of folks with more money than class. They are the real reason sports Rolex are in hot demand. They bought them up. Like Gucci handbags and Prada shoes.

Patek as a brand is just boring and confusing for most flexers. Besides, they looks plain just like ALS. They have no interest. So Patek are mostly purchased and owned by true horologists. They would never give silly names to their heirloom pieces. It’s serious business to own a Patek.

AP has their fare share of flexers for sure, however, most AP owners respect the brand too much to give their pieces silly comic book names. And the flexers who own AP just go along with it because AP pieces are considered the second tier above Rolex in the eyes of the luxury status buyers.

That’s my two cents.

I tend to agree. Rolex has become an "affordable" status symbol I suppose.

We need an official childish nickname for the Sea-dweller. A lot of SD owners out there are feeling left out.
