126506 Platinum Daytona
Not seen many threads covering the 126506 Platinum Daytona.
Really interested in any 1st hand impressions / owning experiences. Other than off-catalogue, is this seen by most as THE ultimate modern Rolex? |

It was a very popular watch on here a few years ago.

Haven’t seen many 12 incoming posts. I’m considering buying one if it comes my way I do like the case back.

It would be good to hear whether anybody obtained from AD or had to go grey too. I think this is probably one of the truly low volume pieces.

And for those who have been around a while, it was a very unpopular watch several years before that.
I loved this watch from the get go, but the majority seemed to dislike it. Lots of comments like “a Platinum Daytona is silly”, or “Not a fan of the dial and ugly brown bezel”. Like many trends and collectibles, the narrative changed and sheep followed. I still love it. I should have bought one several years ago when they were selling for ~$50,000 preowned. I have worn one many times (friend has one), and it’s beautiful. Love the weight, love the brown bezel with ice blue dial. It’s a classic. If I were to buy one now, I would likely seek out the diamond dial. Why not.

I used to really like this watch, at the time even my wife had no problems with me buying one because she said it was the only genuine "WOW!!" Daytona she had seen, but the price was more than I could justify when it came out!
I remember when their mrrp in the UK was around the mid to high forty thousands and they were discounted to very high thirty thousands. I found the watch quite heavy to wear, even compared to WG models, and this did put me off. Lots of ADs had then in and it was very easy to try this model on in shops. As a comparison, around this time, which must have been about 10 to 12 years ago, I bought a new WG Daytona on a bracelet for about 17K and a new WG Daytona on a strap for about 13k. Discounts and availability were readily available in the UK then I still like the look of the watch, especially the model in the photo above. I don't know what the mrrp is for one now, but I've no doubt that they are a lot more than I would pay for one now. The older I get the more I like older and lighter weight models such as the 16520. There used to be a DR Kerr (at least I think that was his name) who used to post a lot about his watch and it certainly looked the part, unfortunately I haven't seen him post anything recently. Having posted this I now realise that you are asking about the new 126... model, obviously my comments about are about the previous model! Last edited by ratty; Yesterday at 02:57 AM.. Really, why? Do you mean the quality of the diamonds?

It's an awesome watch, but I don't think of it in anyway as the "ultimate rolex"

I'd take a solid platinum caseback over a sapphire one any day on this ref. And baguettes, please.

No of course not, I’ve changed phone don’t have the tapatalk app so I can’t show you a photo. The new diamond dial is identical to the non diamond dial. The previous version had a completely blue dial and no sub rings it made it a little more unique :)

I have the new version with the baguettes! It’s a stunning watch in my opinion, love it. Certainly gets more wrist time than the steel Daytona I had, to the point I sold that because it wasn’t getting wrist time.

Prefer the 116506 too. Much cleaner, more striking, look with the baguettes. Especially in the sun

I loved my 11 series platona, to me it's THE best looking Daytona reference by Rolex
That being said maybe I need to hit the weights more as I just couldn't get accustom to the weight, it really is an anchor for your wrist The ice blue sunburst dial and chestnut brown bezel work stunningly well together in person, it would of course never happen but in an alternate universe if I could get this combo on SS I would pay whatever premium and catapult it to the top of my list |

That’s interesting. I actually prefer the new. I like that the diamond dial is subtle on the new version. It’s like a fun little extra that you have to look for.

Love my 116 — wore it today as a matter of fact. Still not sure what I think about the 126 Daytona in general. Bought mine grey for way, way too much but also waited a year at AD with no luck, so I paid the price for BNIB.

I’ve owned all versions, currently the 116. The 126 is a bit different…thinner sub dials, thinner hour markers, exhibition back, bezel ring. That said…not a big enough difference to me personally to want one more than the other (unless you’re comparing baguette dials).
Personally…The exhibition back doesn’t make a difference to me, I rarely look at any of the ones I have/had, the bezel ring isn’t that noticeable after wearing a couple times, and the minor dial differences are barely noticeable to me. The 126 is an evolution, not a revolution or whole new PT Daytona, and some find these small changes a huge deal. Me personally…not usually. |

I believe his name is Thomas Kerr and he s a vascular surgeon in Tampa. He also races Porsches. I remember when he purchased his Platona. He posted about it regularly. I haven’t seen any recent posts from him either. |
