5172g - blue vs salmon
Debating pulling the trigger on a 5172g as my next Patek and torn between the blue and salmon dial. Both are gorgeous but very different vibes...
Can any 5172g owners weigh in on why you chose one over the other? What is more versatile with strap options? Also great to hear some feedback from prospective owners and fans of the model. Oh, and pics always help! |

The salmon lacks the Patek character IMO. In the Arab blue it has a classic Patek style reflecting its predecessors. The Salmon colour was a belated and dare I sat it, desperate attempt to apply a little ‘pop’ to the classic and lacks subtlety - again IMO. Patek is constantly trying to appeal to younger buyers which, I think, explains the flexing colour change.
Of course I would say that as I bought one of the first ones to be released - in Arab blue - and I love it. I imagine the salmon will have been produced in greater numbers. In any event, whatever your taste the 5172G is a beautiful watch with following on in a long line of brilliant Chronos. |

The 5172G dial on the certificate of origin states VERNIS BLEU ARABES… It’s a ‘Moroccan’ sort of grey blue.

I have the blue and tried the salmon but it didn’t convince me that I should get it as well. The numerals against blue looks much nicer than on salmon. If it’s a gradient salmon dial, that might be a different story.

I went with the salmon. In person it’s fantastic and more dynamic than the blue IMO. But blue would be the ‘classic’ choice.

Salmon for me. Not many watches with salmon dials, and Patek does have history in it's use.
The blue dial to be felt like they were trying to appeal to a more casual audience with the contrast stitch calf strap, the gloss brown alligator is more formal imo. I suppose you can always change straps. Regardless, the salmon was more aesthetically pleasing to me.

I take it as saying the dial is Arabic with blue varnish. Arabic being the numerals as it’s not uncommon to say Arabic dial or Roman dial etc.

I wish Patek go back to 38-39mm chronographs. I will be a buyer.

I thought it referred to the Moroccan/ Arab favourite blue colouring… http://walklabyrinth.blogspot.com/20...co.html… but your interpretation makes sense. Either way the blue faced watch is one of PP’s best and pairs with the lugs of the 5320 - the best of the best! - in cream. |

Always preferred the blue in photos until I saw the salmon in person. Not to mention the salmon takes straps really well !

I've seen and tried on both. I prefer the blue to the opaline. But I have quite pale, fair skin; what suits you best might depend on your skin tone.
