My first ever Rolex!!
Hello TRF community, here is my story on my first ever Rolex purchase:
I have lurked those forums for a little while, trying to educate myself before acquiring a high end luxury watch. I got a promotion last year and it was a big milestone for me, both professionnally and personnally and I wanted to reward myself with a piece that would symbolize my past achievements as well as my future ambitions. I did some research and I found a local Rolex AD in my city (around 500k people), which opened about a year ago. I went for a visit last month, showing interest for either a Submariner date or an Explorer II (black or polar). They put me on their list and they were confident they would receive something before the end of the year. So this week, they called me and they said they had an Explorer II black dial in stock and that's pretty much how I got my first Rolex. I was a bit lucky because there was another customer ahead of me but apparently he lost patience and bought something else at another store. So yeah, I just wanted to share my personnal experience with a Rolex AD. Maybe I lucked out a bit but bear in mind, I did not have any relationship at ALL with the boutique, did not spend a dime on any jewellery or less desirable watch models. I basically just showed up one day at the store, started to chat with the staff and tried some pieces and showed my interest to acquire a steel sports model. One thing I found quite odd is how open minded the staff was towards the resell value of the watch and the Rolex brand in general, citing the importance to keep box and all papers if I ever want to resell it. Have any of you had that kind of interaction with your AD? Anyway here are some photos of my new acquisition. |

Great story for a great watch. Congratulations. One more example to show that buying bland new Rolex SS MODEL is not a mission impossible as many think it is.
Enjoy. |

Huge congrats Alex! That's a wonderful first Rolex and going straight to the deep end with complications. I nearly forgot about the 216570 with the endless GMT Master II and Submariner topics that surface. I seemed like you had an excellent buying experience with your AD and that they were able to give you guidance on looking after your purchase. Enjoy it in the best of health.
