Maintenance and care tips for Rolex that aren't used much

I have 3 Rolex (2 subs and a datejust) and I rarely wear them, maybe wear one once a week Max so most the time they sit.

Is there anything special I should be doing or just wind and use them the once a month I use them? Like the datejust I wear maybe 6 times a year so sometimes it sits 6 months.

Aside from them sitting, any other tips to prolong the life of my watch, I read wash once a week,,,,I guess with me I would wash once every 3-4 wears. And I Service once every 10 years I figure would be fine?

For watches barely worn you should at the very least wind them up 40 turns of the crown once a month to keep the oils from migrating from their pivots. Just let the watch run down to a stop naturally. That's about it.

Ok so just wind it 40 times a month and I should be fine? Thanks!

That's what I was told by a reputable watchmaker in the biz for 30 years. Wind it up once a month every month. Let it run down and stop unless you are going to wear it!

I don’t think there’s any problem letting them sit either.

I’ve always wondered with the turning the crown, do we turn the crown 40 full rotations or just 40 turns however much rotation is possible with the thumb and index finger?

From what I've been reading once a month winding is good so the oils don't sit and stuff,,,,I read watch winder will just wear watch out faster which makes sense if watch is running 365 days a year vs 10 times the one being used 10 times could probably do a service every 10-15 years while the everyday used one would be every 5 -7 years,,,,I'm guessing

I think the issues caused with the oils by letting them sit goes back to the days before they started using synthetic oils. I think these days it's okay to just let the watch sit if you are not using it.

Ya I heard the synthetic oils are better but I figure winding once a month won't hurt me if it helps it helps if not it doesn't take long

Personally, I’d say wear them more often.

Ya I would but I work from home and don't leave too often, if I do it's to go to the gym or some sort of sport where you don't really need to be wearing a rolex so I'd like to wear it more just don't know how lol

You’re fine.

The watch doesn’t know time is passing if it isn’t ticking anyway.

I can't see it being an issue given how little the watches will be used overall.

Wear them for yourself not for anybody else. Rotate them while working from home and enjoy them.

I haven't serviced my 116618LN for 9 years (ever since I got it). Still runs great and probably will for another 10 years. I wear it maybe once a month for a day.

Some cheaper movement manufacturers don't use any oil at all. The oil is there for longevity if you actually use your watches. A wind once a month is good for me. I tend not to do a full wind. Just enough for what I need.

What I gathered from all my research, wind once a month 25-30 times and leave it in a watch box

I’d work on a more frequent rotation and get used to wearing your watches at home That’s just me
